Sunny and the Toad
Author Terri Vest
Illustrated by Curt Biehn

As Sunny was walking down the road
he came across a little toad
who smiled and said his name was Tim.
Sunny bowed, saying hello to him.

Sunny noticed that Tim was dressed
in what looked like his Sunday's best.
"Were you about to go somewhere?
Is it a very fancy affair?"

"I am" said Tim, "and let me say
it will be better than any other day.
We'll have a great time!" he said happily
"visiting friends at the jamboree!"

"A jamboree is what you say?
Is that where anyone can play?"
"Oh my YES" Tim cried with glee,
"I'd be pleased if you'd go with me!
It's always best to have a friend
when together you have the time to spend!"

As the day wore on and laughter rang out
all were having a great time no doubt.
With a contest to see who's the best dressed,
the penguins tuxedo's were all neatly pressed.

Between stripes on the cats and the dogs spotted coat
it was hard to decide who got the vote.
The toads were in green and the rabbits in pink
and many were wishing they had coats like the mink!

Soon it was time for all to play games.
They started with ones to help us with names.
And once they knew who everyone was,
then they asked what everyone does.

Mr. Tom Cat said his job was to stay
in a lying position all through the day.
Mr Longnecker the giraffe said that his job
was to keep an eye on some "thingamabob".

Mr. Hoot the Owl said that he relied
on the darkness of night for all that he spied.
And so it went from one to another
sharing a bit of themselves with each other.

Sunny smiled to himself all the while
thinking about the many life styles.
This day was one that he'd never forget,
withthe many new friends that he had met.

As the sunset drew near and it was time to go,
there was one thing for sure that Sunny would know.
This day was the best that he'd ever spent,
and he's so happy that he and Tim went.
