SUNNY'S NEW HOUSE

Written By: Terri Vest

Sunny is a little mouse
who's very sad. He has no house.
He headed down the road one day.
to find a new place for him to stay.

There before him stood a woodchuck
who, unknown to him, would change his luck.
Hello," she said, "my name is Maggie.
Have you the time to talk with me?"

"I was thinking that you look sad.
May I ask; was your day bad?"
"It was", he said, "I hate to whine,
but I've lost my home to a grumpy feline."

"This cat" he said "had chased me out.
Truly I don't mean to pout.
I really did love my home,
and now the street is where I'll roam."

Maggie pondered what he had said
and knew that she had an extra bed.
Smiling she turned and said to him
"Things don't have to be that grim."

"For I have lots of room, you see,
and I'd like to help if you will agree."
He took a breath and raised his head.
"How can you help?" he softly said.

"I'm glad you asked!" she said with pride.
"If you'll just come with me inside
I'll take you to your brand new home
and no more streets will you then roam!"

So off we went to see his room
with a nice size bed and his own bathroom.
"Fix it up and make it your own
and never more will you be alone!"

And that's how it was so long ago
with these two friends we've come to know.
Sitting together, sipping lemonade
Sunny can live his life now totally unafraid.
For he will never find himself on the streets again.
And Maggie, she's just happy with her tiny little friend.
