Shelley Jeanne

I have a sister named Shelley Jeanne.
We use to say "she ate a bean".
At seventeen she's to old for this,
so now I just call her my younger sis.

I've just come back from visiting her
and things aren't like they once were.
She's older now and with a mind of her own.
I guess you could say she's about full grown.

There's still a lot for her to learn.
Love and respect that is hard to earn.
But through patience and an open mind
we'll all survive trials of any kind.

Under that shell of a young teen
is a girl that's not intnetionally mean.
Inside lies one who's at that stage
where sensitivity struggles with the body and age.

Though her teen years can be a trying time,
where, if offered, she'd be traded for just a dime,
if we all hold out for her to "appreciate"
her future value will be well worth the wait!
