Also My Friend

Sitting here, still thinking back,
pondering all the time we lacked.
Was I so foolish to believe that you
would live forever, not see things through?

Could've, should've we all say,
eventually to rue the day
that we didn't make the most of things.
Not prepared for what life brings.

The stirring I have deep inside
tears my soul open wide.
The need I feel to set things straight
reminds me of that fateful date

my time with you came to an end.
Lost not just "dad" but also my friend.
Discomfort in knowing you're gone for good.
Not getting to say goodbye like I should.

Gazing at your smiling face,
your picture in a special place
so I can see you every day
and say the things I wanted to say.
