Result of PMI
I. Net speed problem
Plus:
• To get a great effort on
improving the network speed in our residence local network, not only for the
e-mail and msn anymore.
• The students in the school
residence have a local area network with great speed inside.
• It is easy for them to
transfer files, play games, or share what they have in their computer in the
network.
• The students who live in
C.I.C residence could have a high-speed internet interface without paying any
more fees.
• All of the staff could be
please with these changes that local network will work well constantly and never
be cut off frequently.
Minus:
• The student
might have to pay for the network improvement to get a much higher internet
speed.
• There still
could have many viruses inside the local network that could damage the new
computers which do not have the virus-protection.
• The solution
seems not very easy, we should consider among the hardware, money and technology
on the network and taking a look at the net mode and interface is also necessary.
• There are also many
the sexual and illegal messages and pictures sharing on the internet which is
hard to remove or restrict with.
• We may be
forbidden to do it by the school staffs.
Interesting:
• It is a strange thing
that the school is feed backed about this problem but do not take any effort on
it.
• It is the time to
consider it, not only for the entire of the student, but also for the residence
fee that we have paid.
• The internet
speed is so slow right now that sometimes the students spend 20 minutes for
opening one homepage!
• The school
promised that we could have a great internet solution before we attend in, but
seems we are all fooled by its advertisement.
II. Cafeteria system.
Plus:
• It could save a
lot of time for the student and staff.
• Meal plan
checking will be easier that ever before.
• The students
will not have to wait in a long queue in order to get the food anymore!
• The solution
could also help the school trace out the students who do not pay for the meal
plan.
• You do not have
to worry about tickets caring and losing.
• Avoid the
mistake of the staff which is made by checking the wrong black so that the
students can eat the right meal.
Minus:
• The machine
which can check the students¡¯ code of the meal plan is needed.
• The high-tech
machines are not cheap.
• The details
should be considered in many ways.
• If the students
forget their ID card for check in, they could be forbidden to eat, and that
much worse than losing the meal ticket.
Interesting:
• It is a nice
thing to have the meal plan easily.
• You could be
pleased that there is not long queues outsider cafeteria anymore.
• The solution is
good to deal with.
• The students
will carry their ID card all the time.
III. Coin-Operated Locker System:
Plus:
• The students and
teachers will have a convenient locker system to put and withdraw their goods
at anytime.
• They do not have
to memory the code of the locker.
• It saves much
time to open it.
• The locker is
the same safe as the code-locker.
• The usage
frequency could be increased a lot.
• You do not have
to pay any locker deposit and loaded down with trivial details of the
application for the locker.
• It is so great
that you can choose the locker at anywhere which is left empty.
Minus:
• People should
have a coin with them when they want to use the locker.
• You should keep
the key of the locker and do not lose it. If the key is lost, there could be a
charge for it by the school and it is also a hard thing to open the locker.
• The replacement
of the locker system will cost a lot.
• It is not easy
to change the locker system since the code-lockers are built inside the wall of
the building firmly.
Interesting:
• It could be an
interesting to use the locker just like the wash-machine.
• You do not have
to worry that there is not more locker to be applied or no people like to share
a locker with you.
• Our school could
cut down a task about the locker application.
Summary of Problem I
Problem I: Net speed.
Detail of Problem:
The student might have to pay for the
network improvement to get a much higher internet speed when we use it to work,
and the net speed is so slow that nobody can accept it. In addition, there still
could have many viruses inside the local network that could damage the new
computer which do not have the virus protection.
Target Users:
The student who have computer in their
residence, and the student and teachers who use the computer labs in C.I.C.
Solution:
• We can use the software to solve this
problem, and it could save much money. But this could not take much effort on
the solution.
• We need set more quantity and powerful
cables for example, loom cable.
• To project the system every week.
• To repair the internet line and change the
old slower hubs.
Summery:
In
residence the students always use the internet days and weeks. However, the net
speed problem takes many troubles to us. For example: When they want to find much
information on internet for studies, they suffered from every time they connect.
Since we time is money, saving the time is saving the money in our lives. In
fact the internet speed is too slow right now that sometimes the students could
spend 20 minutes on opening one pages in their web browsers! The school promise
that we could have a great internet solution before we attended in, but seems
we all fooled by its advertisement. It is nonsense that we can save money from
net speed if don¡¯t need the cable modem.
Above
all, every student thinks the net speed problem is important than the other
problems. A great solution will make we think we could be their heroes on their
home works and communications.
Summary of problem II
Problem II: Cafeteria system.
Detail of problem:
There are too many students stay
in line at the front of the cafeteria when the lunch comes. We have to spend
nearly 1 hour on having lunch, and that makes us feel tired and fuss too. Both
Target Users:
The teachers; students in C.I.C.; and the
staff who check the student¡¯s meal plans.
Solution:
• An interview to
the staffs that is in cafeteria for opinion of student and make a record.
• Buy a machine,
which calculate each time that you eat and rest of money.
• Use a code
machine to check students¡¯ ID card; then it can save more time, and let the
students to have meal as soon as possible.
Summery:
We always spend too much time on lunch
time. Due to the fact that we should find a short cut that we can save our
time. For example, after period 3 and 4, the students must feel very hungry and
want to have meal immediately. But when they go to the cafeteria there are many
people waiting outside. If school could use a code machine to check students¡¯
ID card or teachers¡¯ staff card, then the students and teachers could have meal
as soon as possible, and we will not be afraid of losing the meal plan tickets
and being refused to pizza place anymore! As you can see, let everyone eat what
they want, and makes the staffs in the cafeteria feel easier by saving their
time is possible under this solution. Also, it is helpful by improving the meal
plan in our school instead of checking tickets days and days.
Actually, the meal card looks a bit like the bankcard. You can put money
into the deposit, and then just brush the digits off from the machine. The more
time you eat, the less money you have inside the card. It is a good idea for
students that if they want to eat different values of the food, and also they
could eat outside. The convenient way is just out your card in, and then you go
and enjoy the lunch.

all students who are studying in
Solution:
• An interview to
the students which is about the opinion of lockers and make a record.
• Readjust
the lockers system and increase the amount of lockers.
• Change
a better lockers system.
Summary:
This problem is an
important problem for the new students who are still waiting for renting the
lockers, because they have to take many test books to go to school, they say
that is so heavy and so tired to bring them. For this type of this problem, we
can increase the amount of lockers. Then, we should expand the volume of
lockers and take enough places to store their clothes or books. A good way is
change a better lockers system, for example we can change the secret code
lockers to be Coin-Operated lockers. That will be more convenient. The student
will not be worried about forgetting the secret code. If they wanted to use
them, they can put a coin into the locker, and the locker will open, if you
close it, the coin will be automatism out. Of course, the coin is a special
coin, different coin for deferent lockers. So you will not worried your locker
is not safe.
So we can take
an automatism lockers system. For example if the student do not use the lockers
for a long time, the lockers system should show through the machines to the
staff who manages the lockers. The staff should cancel the using right of the
last student and change the key for the other students.
Final Conclusion
After taking the Brainstorming session
on many problem we finger out that need to be improved, three problems were chosen
for consideration. They are the Net speed problem, the Cafeteria system, and the
Code-protected Locker
System. Although all three problems are worthwhile and familiar with the
students and stuffs in the school, we recommend that the Code-protected Locker
System Locker System is the most one that needed to be improved. The Code-protected Lockers is very
useful, concentrate on and easier to deal with. Therefore, due to these
reasons, we have decided to do a case study on this problem in order to
discover a new way to make the locker system taking more efficient and convenient
with a improved program package. If it has improved,
it is the best rewards for our effort.
Subjective Recommendation
for Top Problem
The Code-protected Locker System is a
part of the school storage, and is showing more and more efforts on students¡¯
daily lives. It is a pity that you could not find any place to put the clothes you
changed and the books you carry with. Personally our group members suggested changing
the lockers systems that both from the software and the hardware, because it is
top problem out of the three final vote which could have the easiest way to be
solved and affected.
