Here is the information about Hypnosis that anyone would find interesting!!!
This type of therapy does not have a real author. There are many hypnosis books out on the market, therefore any therapist can adapt any form of technique.
The cost of this type of therapy can range from therapist to therapist. If the client is attending a session for stuttering therapy and hypnosis is being used as a treatment plan, then the cost of the session will be the cost of the therapy.
There is no suggested age range. Anyone that is willing to try this type of therapy is more than eligible.
The theoretical basis behind this type of treatment is to control the effects of stuttering, to increase self-esteem, to increase confidence, and to direct suggestions of well being.
Fluency techniques are not really touched upon in this type of therapy. What is mentioned, is when the client comes for hypnosis therapy, he or she is to remember to maintain all therapy techniques that they have learned during their therapy with the speech pathologist.
Rate and vocal inflection are not addressed during this type of therapy.
The client's role in this program is to participate in the process of controlling stuttering. He or she must first seek out speech therapy for their stuttering, and then practice their techniques while under self-hypnosis or clinician induced hypnosis. The parent's role in this process is to learn some therapy techniques that their child is learning as well as being a support system to their child. The parents should also have an open mind. They too should take part in their child's therapy. They can learn to cue their children to control their stuttering and build up their confidence and self-esteem.
This program deals heavily with attitudes. This program enables the stutterer to have an attitude that YES, he or she can control their stuttering problem and fulfill their dreams of talking normal.? These clients can build their self esteem just by practicing their techniques while using hypnosis.
This type of treatment does rely some what on social skills. In order for the therapy to work, the client must be sociable. However, after learning this technique and practicing it, the stutterer can freely enjoy sociable conversations and events with ease due to this type of therapy.
Suggestions and stress reduction are important to this type of therapy. This treatment relies on stress management. The first thing that this therapy technique teaches a client is a way to relieve stress, so he or she can become more fluent. In researching this type of therapy, I have come across many books that teach hypnotic techniques to relieve stress and to manage it. Those references will be noted.
Maintenance is very important for any type of therapy. In order for this therapy or any type of therapy, practice is important. In the early sessions of hypnosis therapy, the clinician will teach the client to use self-hypnosis to induce themselves in a trance. Once the client has successfully accomplished this, maintaining practice should not be a problem. Relapse was not talked about in detail, but as said before, relapse can happen if the client feels that he or she is cured.
This program can be easily adapted to any type of setting or population. The self-inducing hypnosis can be done any where and at any time. We all slip in and out of trances each day. As the client learns his or her techniques to control their stuttering, they could easily self-induce themselves and practice anytime and anywhere.
In my opinion, this program can be used with any type of population. The research did not mention anything about special populations; however, it did mention that hypnosis has been used for centuries for other communication disorders.
I do not know of any way that this program can be modified. It does take practice to fully succeed in learning how to use self-hypnosis techniques. The research did not mention any modifications.
The best feature of this program is its ability to control stuttering, build self-confidence and self-esteem. Having confidence in ones self is very important. If the stutterer is able to succeed in boosting their self-confidence, they will ultimately feel better about controlling their stuttering.
I am not sure what I can add or delete to make this program more effective. I would first have to witness a therapy session that uses hypnosis as a treatment, and then follow up on that client.
The literature states that this type of therapy has been used with many communication disorders since the late 19th century. It is a wonderful program to increase well-being, self- confidence and self esteem. This program can be used to help the mild stutterer as well as the severe stutterer, in conjunction with stress management and speech therapy. The literature also states that this program is not for everybody, but if one has an open mind, is willing to try, and practice, this program should work. The literature also points out that the results are consistent with the view that straight forward psychological techniques of anxiety management and confidence building delivered in a hypnotic context are effective in a long-term stuttering problem. Lastly, the literature states that speech therapists and others involved with treatment of communication disorders should perhaps be encouraged to acquire hypnotic techniques to supplement their existing clinical skills.
