Kayla Jo Weir

Update 003 THURSDAY 10 FEB 2005 My how time does fly! Looking back I can’t believe it was September when I last updated this page. Well a hell of a lot has happened since! On Tuesday 18 January 2005, at 6am Jo and I arrived at the Durbanville Medi-Clinic, excited, but not knowing what we were in for. We had planned everything for Kayla’s Birth, or so we thought… Our initial plan was for Jo to have a natural birth with no pain killers or epidural, but after 9 and half hours of labor contractions, we bit the bullet and after the Doc’s advise, we opted to go for a cesarean. It was a long and tiring day for both of us , but we managed to keep our sanity and the initial panic attacks subsided. At 16:30 the mid wife informed us that they were preparing the theatre and Jo would go in shortly. Well… 5 mins passed, 10 mins passed, 30 mins passed and finally at 17:25 they came to fetch us, and boy, was I relieved. I had been telling Jo that it was the last contraction for almost an hour, and I could see her patience was wearing thin! ( a hint for any expectant fathers… don’t try and crack jokes, whilst your wife is in labor, as you are bound to get a right hook to the jaw!) Moving on… Once Jo had been taken through to theatre, I was kitted out in “surgical greens”. Ready for action, kitted out like the guys on ER, I accompanied the pediatrician into the icy theatre. There Jo was, all covered up in sterile Greens and Blues. They had given her a spinal block, so she was wide awake and see and hear what was going on. It all happened so quickly, and before we knew it Kayla Jo Weir had entered our world, with a welcoming scream! The official time of Birth was 18:10, on Tuesday 18 January 2005. She weighed in at a healthy 3.655Kg’s and was 48cm tall. It all seemed surreal, and the emotional roll- a - coaster ride you go through is unexplainable. It’s amazing how quickly your outlook on life changes, when you witness the miracle of birth. I was someone’s father, and this gorgeous human being would be dependent on Jo and I, well for her initial existence anyway. Well Kayla is more than three weeks old now and is growing every day. She has settled down well and is sleeping up to 6 hours at night. A huge thank you goes out to all of you who sent, gifts, messages and best wishes. We are so fortunate to have family and friends like you. Kayla is already one spoilt little girl! Cheers for Now. Gummi. p.s. I have kept this one short !
