If you are looking for a very spacious and modern villa with breathtaking views than Luxury Villa Provarma Hills may be for you. This villa offers you basically everything you'd expect from a superior villa. The only thing lacking is a big round dot for a helicopter to land on. Villa Provarma Hills is quietly situated on a hill in the north of the island of Crete, just outside the villages of Gerani and Modi in the area between Chania and Kolymbari. The distance to the popular tourist resort of Platanias is about ten minutes by car. Recently a large new Lidl supermarket was opened here, which is easy to find. We though it was very convenient to just buy lots of food here and fill up the trunk of our car, because once you're inside the grounds of the villa you will not feel much need for leaving it again. The area around the villa is also suitable for making nice walks. There are quiet roads and hiking paths that go into the hills.

The view from Villa Provarma is over the wooded hills, some villages, the sea and the uninhabited island of Agii Theodori, which according to legend is actually a petrified sea monster. During the daytime or at night when the lights in the houses go on it is a pretty sight and very relaxing to just stare at the picture in front of you. There are several taverns and shops at about a 5 minutes drive away and also the beach can be reached within about 5 minutes (a long, quiet sandy / pebble beach which was suitable for naturists and after the turn a sandy beach with umbrellas and sun beds). In Villa Provarma you are not woken up in the morning by the cars or people, but by the many different birds that fly around the house and sing.

The villa is located on private property which is fenced by a stone wall. You can enter through a large electric fence that you can open by remote control. You climb the staircase and open the front door to go into the house. This is the floor where the huge living room and the kitchen are. On one side of the villa there are sliding glass doors. Through the sliding doors you get to the platform with a comfortable outside sitting area (sofa, chairs and coffee table) and a few sunbeds. If you walk down the stairs of the platform you come to the pool with sun beds, umbrellas and a hammock.

The grounds where Villa Provarma is situated are large and has its own olive grove. Just behind the house is another small house with two BBQ's and a large dining table and chairs. From the pool next to the olive grove there is a path with on both sides bougainvillas that leads to a private church. This lovely church was open and it contained some icons and there was a Bible with iron fittings. Next to the church there is a bronze bell hanging from a tree. You can burn a candle here if you want to, just like I have done. Next to the olive grove there are a few palm trees and lawns.

The living area of Villa Provarma is huge. We estimate about 200 m2 but it may well be larger. There is a separate area with chairs and sofas around the large television and DVD player. Here the ceiling is very high, about 7 meters and here is the stairway to the top floor. The floor in this part of the livingroom is made of dark wood and the rest of this floor is covered in a white marble, just as in all the rooms on the top floor. There is a common sitting area with an L-shaped sofa and a chaise lounge and a dining area with a large table with chairs. On the floor is a toilet (in total there are 4 toilets in the house).

The kitchen is a good size, with cabinets on both sides, and it has all modern facilities such as a microwave, a dishwasher and a big fridge with double doors and an ice machine. There is plenty of china and glassware to choose from and there are pots and pans, and I think about 20 different oven trays. There is a toaster, a kettle and there are two French presses for making coffee.

There is a door in the kitchen that leads to the stairs that go down where there is a large room with a pool table and some sports equipment. There is an ironing board and iron. On this floor is also the washing machine. You will find the first of four bedrooms (all with a double bed), which has a private shower and toilet. The floors are made of of ceramic tiles. All bedrooms have a TV and air conditioning. There is enough storage space in the closets of all bedrooms and the master bedroom even has a "walk-in wardrobe." The mattresses are a special kind of health mattresses and very comfortable.

The nice pool with outdoor shower is located next to the villa and it is positioned in the sun almost the entire day. It is (I think) surrounded by a sort of rough white marble, so you do not slip on it and it is not too hot on your feet. The pool is of a generous size and there is a children's section in it. The swimming pool has really comfortable chairs - wooden with cushions on it and an extendable small table to put your drink on - and it has large and small umbrellas. There are also some sunbeds next to the villa itself where you can sit in the shade. The owner of the villa left us beach towels to use at the pool, so you do not have to bring your own. The pool is located in a position with much privacy (like all the rest of the house actually) and therefore we could swim without swimwear. From the pool you look out over the greenery, the sea and the island that lies off the coast.

From the lounge you can take the monumental staircase to the first floor where there are three bedrooms and a sitting area. The two bedrooms on the left side share a bathroom with a shower and a toilet. One of these rooms has a balcony. On the right side you pass a sitting room (with access to a balcony) and enter the master bedroom, which is of a spacious size. It has brown and white marble floors and a fireplace. There is also access to two separate terraces, where it is nice to spend the evenings. The master bedroom has its own dressing room (a "walk-in closet") with lots of cabinets. It also has a large bathroom with a jacuzzi for 3 people and a rain shower. The tap above the sink responds to movement, so if you hold your hand over it, the water automatically starts flowing. In the master bedroom are bathrobes for guests.
