The island of Skorpios in the Ionian Sea in Greece
Nederlands

Skorpios, Skorpidi and Sparti are three small islands north of the island of Meganisi (2 kilometers), between the island of Lefkas and the mainland of Greece. The distance to Lefkas / Lefkada is about 1 kilometer. Skorpios is also known as the island of Onassis. Skorpios is a green and wooded island. The highest point is 81 meters.

In the 60's the island of Skorpios came into the hands of the Greek shipowner Aristotle Onassis and since then it has remained in possession of this family. Jacqueline Kennedy and Aristotle Onassis were married on the island on the 20th of October 1968. After the death of Onassis the island came into the hands of Christina Onassis and after her death it was the private property of her daughter Athina Roussel. Onassis, his son Alexander, and his daughter Christina are all buried on the island. Because the island is privately owned it may not be visited.

Athina Roussel reportedly spends very little time on the island and there was a speculation that she has put the island up for sale or had already sold it for figures between 100 and 200 million euro. Bill Gates would have been interested and Giorgio Armani would even have bought the island for 150 million euros, but the latter denies. Rumours also have it that Madonna wants to buy the island. Skorpios island is valued at over more than 200 million euros, making it the most expensive private island on the planet.
