Epano Sisi in Crete, Greece

Epano Sisi or "upper Sisi" is a traditional Cretan village a couple of kilometers east of Malia. You can reach it when you take the exit from the main road to Milatos and Sisi. The road to Epano Sisi and the coast is a curvy one. Down below is the better known tourist resort of Sisi with all its restaurants and accommodations. Epano Sisi is not very large and most of the buildings are still traditional and made of stone. There is also farmland in and around the village. On a small square at the crossroads in the village there are two tavernas you can choose from if you want something to eat. Next to these tavernas is a small church with (new) wall paintings.

Villa Aetos Vigla in Milatos - one of the largest private villas in Crete

Behind a big iron fence just outside of the village of Milatos lies one of the largest private villas of the island of Crete: the Villa Aeotos Vigla. Set on the foot of a hill it overlooks the village of Milatos with its churches and its traditional stone houses, and the lower situated small tourist resort Milatos at the Beach with a choice of taverna's and a super market. The house is impressive and it has 6 balconies (all of them with a sea view, 4 of them are quite large), a large landscaped garden with 2 stone barbeques and a 100 m2 pool. On top of the house is the enormous roof terrace with a 360 degrees panorama. The villa is detached and situated in a quiet spot. The swimming pool is at the back of the house where you are not overlooked. In order to get to the villa Aetos Vigla you drive through the village of Milatos and take the road towards the Milatos cave (there are signs). The villa is the largest building in the area of Milatos so it is also easy to spot and you can see it from afar.

To Geraki Taverna - Epano Sisi

To Geraki taverna is situated at the crossroads in the village of Epano Sisi and it is one of the two tavernas inside the village. The food is simple but honest. There are several apetizers, salads and omelettes, grilled meat and chicken, fried aubergines, cheese pies and vegetable pies. The bread is fresh and comes with butter.
