What you at least have is a lot of privacy and the feeling that you have nothing to do with other people and you can do whatever you like to do. Often it is thought that this is an expensive way of holidaying, but in many cases this is not true. Especially if you're a family or a group of people it is sometimes even cheaper than if you make a booking at a hotel. Is it not wonderful to wake up and have everything for yourself? Your own pool, your own deck chairs and your own own home. In these holiday villas there is always a large kitchen with all appliances - coffee machine, oven, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine (you do not have to bring that many clothes) etcetera. There is a nice lounge with a sofa, a dining table and chairs for all people, nice outdoor seating and so on. For me this is the ultimate enjoyment. |

Villa Almyrida View in Almyrida - Large 3 bedroom villa with panoramic viewsThis beautiful and large villa is situated on a quiet road in the village of Almyrida on walking distance from all the tavernes, supermarkets, atm machine, pharmacy, the (very good) bakery and all the other amenities that this lovely village has to offer (not forgetting the good sandy beaches here). This makes it idealy situated: away from noise but close to everything. The villa has different sitting areas on the outside (you can choose for sun or shade) where you can relax and enjoy a breakfast, a coffee or a drink while you look out over the village of Almyrida, the bay of Souda and the island of Karga. In the distance you can see the planes take off and land on the airport of Chania, which is situated on the opposite Akrotiri peninsula. There is a 40 m2 large private pool with sunbeds (with soft covers if you like) which is in the sun almost day, so water temperatures are good. Next to the villa at the gate there is a parking place for your car.

Villa Sophia's House in Aspro near Almirida Beach (Apokoronas - Crete)This lovely intimate villa is situated on a hill near the seaside resort of Almirida. We stayed here in September 2008, September 2009 and September 2011 and we absolutely loved it. It was cozy and comfortable and the views from the terraces and the pool were fantastic. The villa had everything you could wish for: amazing views from the terraces and the pool, a beautiful bathroom, a living space with comfortable couches, a dining table and chairs and three bedrooms with extra large extra comfortable beds with loads of pillows. The beds were over two meters long because I could fit in without any problems and without my feet sticking out (yes people, I am a tall, tall guy). I loved this place because it felt so homely and everybody was feeling so happy in it. It makes you want to buy your own villa on the island.

Old Fountain Villas - Galatas - CretePalia Vrisi is the name of the area where the villas are situated. It means "old fountain" and this is because the people that live in Galatas and around used to come here for their water. We stayed at one of the three Old Fountain Villas in September 2008. They are situated in a very green area near the villages of Galatas and Stalos, not far away from the town of Chania on the route to Kissamos Kastelli. The owner of the villas is Helen and she is very friendly and her english is perfect! There are three different villas on the estate and Helen and her husband also have a house there. All the villas are detached and have their own garden and private pool and they are different in size.

Villa Giorgos in Gavalochori - A house with 3 bedrooms in a pine tree forestVilla Giorgos is set in a very secluded spot in the middle of a pine tree forest. The villa is situated on the outskirts of Gavalochori and close to the coastal resort of Almyrida. In both villages you can find good tavernes, super markets and a bakery. Especially the pastries of the bakery in Almyrida are worth a detour! Villa Giorgos is situated on a hill at the end of short dirt track. The villa has several verandas with a splendid view of the forest that surrounds it and there are distant views of the sea in front of Almyrida (Souda Bay). It's very, very quiet. Behind the villa is the private pool with the sunbeds and the parasols, chairs and tables, a swing and a bbq. The pool is surrounded by a low wall and pine trees and is not overlooked, so we skinny dipped.

Villa Prinolothos in Gavalochori - 3 slaapkamers, aparte studio en prachtig zeezichtThis beautiful large stone villa with private pool is located on a hill just above the village of Gavalochori, in a region called the Apokoronas. It is about half an hour to forty five minutes away from the city of Chania and the trip from the airport is approximately one hour. The villa has three bedrooms and a separate studio that can accommodate four people. The maximum number of people that can stay in the villa is ten. Prinolithos villa is in a very quiet and very private position, so ideal for those who seek tranquility and and want the possibility to to sunbathe and swim without swimwear. The views from Villa Prinolithos and from the infinity pool are extremely pretty. You look out over several villages, including Gavalochori with its four churches, the villages of Aspro and Plaka, the green nature, the Souda Bay and the Akrotiri peninsula. In the woods around the villa are many birds and especially in the mornings it is a cheerful twittering and whistling.

Luxury Villa Provarma Hills, Gerani, Crete.If you are looking for a very spacious and modern villa with breathtaking views than Luxury Villa Provarma Hills may be for you. This villa offers you basically everything you'd expect from a superior villa. The only thing lacking is a big round dot for a helicopter to land on. Villa Provarma Hills is quietly situated on a hill in the north of the island of Crete, just outside the villages of Gerani and Modi in the area between Chania and Kolymbari. The distance to the popular tourist resort of Platanias is about ten minutes by car. Recently a large new Lidl supermarket was opened here, which is easy to find. We though it was very convenient to just buy lots of food here and fill up the trunk of our car, because once you're inside the grounds of the villa you will not feel much need for leaving it again. The area around the villa is also suitable for making nice walks. There are quiet roads and hiking paths that go into the hills.

Villa Athina is situated on a hilltop in Kokkino Chorio, a village just east of the city of Chania, in the area called the Apokoronas. In October 2012 we were one of the first visitors in this new house which is built in traditional style, with stone and round arches between the rooms and the terraces. The villa has a private pool and is set in a very private location (not overlooked). The view from the grounds of the villa and the various verandas is phenomenal. You look out over the sea, three peninsulas (Apokoronas, Akrotiri and Rodopos) and three islands, including Souda Island with its fortress and the island of Karga, that lies in front of the village of Almyrida. There are views over the bay of Souda,the naval base, the fort Izzedine and you see the cruise boats and ferries sailing in on their way to the harbour of Souda. On the west side you look out over the village of Kokkino Chorio with its church and behind it you can see the White Mountains.

The most beautiful house on Crete - Villa Pantazis (near Rethimnon - Madaras)We stayed in the upper floor this beautiful stone house for a couple of days in September 2008. It is defenitely the most tasteful and luxurious house that I ever came across on my travels to the Greek islands. It is enormous and filled with antiques and art, and it has thick walls and arches to seperate some of the spaces (all together 330 square meters). At the end of the enormous living room the wooden roof which is shaped with complete tree trunks is about 7 meters high with a big chandelier hanging from it: really impressive. There are several couches and seats, a handpainted "art-table", a big fire place and there are windows everywhere looking out over the sea and the countryside. It also comes with 3 verandas and a balcony. It is situated on its own hill with majestic views over the sea and on the other side over a valley and a large, impressive mountain that is so beautiful it was hard to choose what view was more awesome.

Bayview Bungalows, Lagada, Makrigialos, south of Crete.These new bungalows have an area of 88 m2 and are situated around a lovely large communal pool with sun beds. The decor is sleek and modern, yet very cozy. We felt immediately at home upon arrival, even so we only went out for dinner in the evening one time and the rest of the days we stayed in the bungalow and I cooked something myself ;).

Villa Renata in Megala Chorafia: deceptively large and luxurious. The perfect get away.Pictures do not do this villa justice: you have to see it and experience it. One of my favorites ever. It is an absolute gem and also the perfect get away from it all. The people that own it have turned it into something very special. We visited this beautiful villa in the Apokoronas in October 2008. It is deceptively large: I estimate it is about 175 m2. Downstairs there are three bedrooms (2 doubles and one twin). The double rooms each have their own balcony and the twin room has a door leading to the patio in front of the pool. The last room has a private bathroom with a shower and toilet and there is also a small study incorporated. All the bedrooms have a tv and there is airconditioning.

Villa Amalia in Megala Chorafia - Luxureous large villa with a big swimming poolThis beautiful large villa with private pool of 50 m2 is situated on a hill next to the village of Megala Chorafia (near Chania - which is 13 kilometers away - and Kalives, in the north of the island of Crete). It is one of the nicest places we ever stayed. The villa is easy to reach. If you come from the direction of Chania and drive towards the east you will pass the village Megala Chorafia. Just after the exit to the village you can clearly see the sign that says "Villa Amalia next exit 100 m" and here you drive over a narrow but good road into the hills. You can not miss it and you will automatically end up at the villa. Here is a separate parking area where you can put the car.

Villa Aetos Vigla in Milatos - one of the largest private villas in Crete.Behind a big iron fence just outside of the village of Milatos lies one of the largest private villas of the island of Crete: the Villa Aeotos Vigla. Set on the foot of a hill it overlooks the village of Milatos with its churches and its traditional stone houses, and the lower situated small tourist resort Milatos at the Beach with a choice of taverna's and a super market. The house is impressive and it has 6 balconies (all of them with a sea view, 4 of them are quite large), a large landscaped garden with 2 stone barbeques and a 100 m2 pool. On top of the house is the enormous roof terrace with a 360 degrees panorama.

Behind the gated front is the road up to the villa and the car parking. Villa Ti Amo has 3 bedrooms, two doubles (with double beds) and a single / twin (the latter is a single bed that can be pulled out). Downstairs is the living room with a kitchen, a bathroom with shower and toilet and one of the double bedrooms. Both the bedroom and living room have a balcony / terrace and a covered porch with chairs / benches and a table. A great place to have breakfast or dinner. It is also a wonderful place to sit in the shade on a sunny day.
