When you visit Crete you MUST rent a bike or a car, because if you don't you are missing out on a lot. The island is so beautiful and large that you just have to explore it. I always rent my car at the very reliable Just Rental Center. You book your car online and when you get to the airport there will be somebody waiting for you with your name on a sign at the exit of the arrivals. When you fly back you can leave your car at the special parking that they have at the airport (Heraklion) and you leave the key at the entrance of the parking. It's really easy and they will explain it all to you. They also deliver and collect cars to your hotel. Cheaper than anywhere else, much cheaper than when you rent something with the hostess of your travel agent. I have been doing this for many years now, tried a lot of other car rentals before, and now sticking to this one because it is the easiest and the best one I have tried in all my years of visiting the island of Crete.
