The village and the beach of Agios Georgios on Crete

The beaches of Agios Georgios are situated in the south of Crete, 7 kilometer east of Agia Galini. The road to Agios Georgios is one with many hairpins, leading you past a couple of small churches. The first one is the church of Agios Nikoloas that dates from 1949, and which has the ruins of another building next to it.
The second church on the route is a small new stone built church, which is very well done. There are several paths leading down from the road to different small and quiet pebble beaches. There are also a couple of taverna's and on the beaches there are facilities (parasols, sunbeds). The Agios Georgios beaches would have been perfect as a naturist beach, but some frustrated chicken has put up a sign saying that nude swimming is prohibited (it doesn't mention anything about sunbathing in the nude though, ahah).
