Once I went to a festival and they over loaded the game so for every quarter I put in I'd never grab anything but I'd drag it across the pile and get 3 or 4 toys everytime... I walked away with about 15 plush pieces of crap... but at least I won!!!!

one time me and my friends were at a pizza hut somewhere and they had this play til you win crane game with a bunch of weird stuff in it. We saw this one hulk hogan cassette tape and were sitting there trying for over an hour trying to get it. We'd get mad every time the crane picked up a tootsie roll cuz that meant our round was over. We never did get that tape...

It really depends on what positions toys are in, to win something. Often, I check out a crane game's contents for a minute or two before I determine if there's anything winnable in there.

I've had my share of dud tries, but I've also won more than a few times. Of most importance was two small plush huskies, a grey one and a black one, that I won while I was at Walt Disney World (I was there for a high school marching band trip). When I saw the toys, I told myself I absolutely had to have one (I loved the way they looked). And those toys are particularly important because I won it with some help from a person who was almost a girlfriend who also was particularly fond of huskies. :) It took me 11 tries (where each try was a dollar each) -- so that means each of those huskies cost me $5.50 -- still a bargain for what toys normally cost at Walt Disney World. This was also important because this was where I sorta trained myself how to be successful at the crane game. ;)

I've also won a tiger with $0.25 in a crane game at some random gas stop in Nebraska (travelling by bus for a college marching band trip), and a calico bunny from a crane that's really close to home.

At my local arcade, theres a candy machine where you play until you grab some candy, so me and my friends waited patently and got lots of free candy from people who inserted $.25, tried, and left... Lots of free games ^_^

If you stick your hand in the door and catch the candy without touching the bottom or sides of the interior, you can play forever on one quarter. But only if your hand or the candy does not hit the bottom or sides, because it resets the machine or something.

there was one at a local walmart and me and my friends win on it a lot! Sure we had our share of loses but there were some stuff where we would just look at it and then go "that one is easy to get" it all depends how they are laying in there. Infact I won a NY Rangers bear on my first try by grabbing it under the arms. We also won some other weird stuff like a boxing glove, the queen of hearts doll, gumby, I was pleased when I managed to win this plush Philly Flyers mask and some other crap we got just b/c they were easy to get.

There was this one thing in there though that we knew could never be won. It was this huge huge Ape in there and it had this world champ shirt on. That thing didn't even lift up if you tried to lift it! The claw sorta just dangles there for a while and then pulls back up without lifting any part of it up. That thing always made us laugh.

I love the Kit Kat commercial with the crane-game, when this little girl's Dad finally grabs a stuffed toy by the head with 'the Claw', gets it all the way to the place where you drop it to get it out, and only the body drops, leaving the head in the claw. It's funny if you've actually seen that happen in real life (although when it happened to this guy I was watching the head didn't fall off, the claw had just stabbed right into the stuffed toy, so when it was dropped half of it's insides were wrenched out. Damn that was funny)

A long time ago, my friend was playing a crane game and I was watching, and suddenly, I don't even know why, I just reached over and smacked the make the thing go down button, and he was pissed off, but then he actually won something, and he was like, whoa, and I was like, yeah, I rock.

There is a new type of crane game that is making its rounds in all the arcades, these days...and I can't believe the thing even exists.

The thing is filled full of those stupid little halloween candies and a few actual candy bars. The idea (like usual) is to use the crane to pick up the candy. (But, here is where it gets totally absurd.) IF you are lucky enough to even get the crane to pick up a piece, it plops it down on this platform, where a motorized plow board MIGHT push it slightly forward. The idea is that the dropped piece MIGHT push another piece "won" from before that MIGHT cause a domino effect to push somebody's victory from who knows how long before to drop into the shoot. Not only is that bad enough, but the game isn't "play 'til you win" and it costs 50 cents a play...all for the attempt to win somebody elses piece of 10 cent candy!!! I can't believe this machine's total scam isn't seen by EVERYONE!!!

The only good news is that I've only really seen a couple people even get addicted to playing this game, and they were both employees of the arcade...getting their endless supply of tolkens for free. So, they wern't really losing much.

What else can I say but...DON'T PLAY THIS STUPID MACHINE, PEOPLE. JUST DON'T. If you must have cheap, cheap candy, buy it at 7-Eleven for a dime a piece.
From: jup | Posted: 10/14/2001 1:22:59 AM | Message Detail
Those "Play til you win" Pez and Bazooka gum type crane games are the best, aren't they? On occasion, when I have a couple spare tolkens and I don't feel like playing a game, I'll put the last tolkens into those type crane machines and get a cheap snack for a cheap price. Granted, I've never seen an infestation problem in any of them, like crickets, thankfully. But, they usually are wrapped in something.

I have seen a couple candy vending machines that acted like prize givers, too. The first one must have come from Vegas, or something. I mean, this must be as super-deluxe as they can get. The thing accepted just about any kind of US currency out there. From pennies to those silver dollars. (ALSO, the modern golden dollar coin.) And, one dollar bills up to a Twenty. (No wonder it took those dollar coins. It needs them to make change with.) But, the best thing is the crazy machine has a lottery system in place. (Which I have won twice on.) You put your money in, make your choice, and if you win, the thing beeps like crazy and the display says, "Congratulations. You are a winner." and gives your purchasing price back to you along with the item purchased. The other vending machine I am talking of was a candy vender at work. One day, the thing did the craziest malfunction. Something in the coin return process got stuck and would keep returning all the coins that were fed into the machine...but only after it was registered in the machine as a digital figure. (Which meant free food for the use of a single quarter.) Once word got out, (which was rather quickly) the employees mobbed the machine and emptied it of almost everything. (We are talking a major cash loss for the candy vending company, here. I forget the actual storage capacity. Perhaps: eight shelves. Each with 5-10 rows. Each row holding a dozen or more products. Most rows have a price listing of 0.50-2.00 on them. Plus the small gum holding area. Not to forget all the change in the change maker device. A LOT of profit loss, due to some stuck bent coin device.)

Needless to say that a whole lot of employees were fired within a week of that event. WAS IT WORTH IT? NO! CRIME DOES NOT PAY!!!

PS: I forgot to mention that on that scam crane game that I posted about above, there is a large door that controls where the candy that falls goes to when it falls. About 10 seconds after the crane comes back to it's home spot, this large door changes position to catch any candy that migh fall and places it in some sort of interior holding area. (So, that cheaters can't bang and rock the machine to get the candy that is sitting on the shelf.) I don't even want to think about what the machine owners might do with the candy that falls down in that dark area...possibly sitting there for months at a time...possibly tossing it back into the main "crane hunting" area. ***YECK***!!!!!
