This was a small index page to a few out of date things I'd written about GNUnet, and a link to the main GNUnet site. GNUnet isn't my project, but I'd been following its progress and wanted to do something a little helpful towards it.

NEWS

April 2005:These pages had been up for like a year and a half with little in the way of updates (because I couldn't find the time and couldn't follow some of the changes that were made to GNUnet), when I put up an announcement that I was going to take them down after a month or two, and that if anybody else wanted to take over maintenance of them instead (on a site of their own), they should let me know.

That was over half a year ago, and nobody has contacted me who was both willing and able to do that, so I'm taking them down at last. Sorry.

The FAQ had been intened more as a sort of HOWTO really, but there were some gaps in my own knowledge, and these only grew as things like namespaces and things were added. It didn't help that I wasn't able to use the GTK version for any length of time (due to crashes that only I seemed to get and that nobody understood). So I was becoming more and more unhappy that people might get misinformed by my outdated "unofficial FAQ".

The advice page was meant more as a starting point to discussions of "informal protocols" that seemed useful or maybe even important to settle on... but that didn't work out. One other user recently seemed to see the value of such things, but by then I had pretty much moved on to various other projects.

Hopefully the new GNUnet site will allow other more committed GNUnet users than myself to do the things that these pages were intended for. It was fairly active when I looked, and as the GNUnet user base grows, that site will probably get much better too.

(if anybody does come along later who wants to take over some or all of the pages I took down, let me know as I still have copies, they're just not online any more; if you do, I'll put a link to the new location)
