hello!

welcome to slopoke's homepage.
my hobbies are computers, fishing, movies and music.
i have a son who is grown now. he met a lovely lady who recently gave birth to a baby boy. while he's serving his country in the gulf, i'm in grandpa basic training, and enjoying it! he's due home soon, we're counting down the weeks. i'll be father-of-the groom soon after his return, they're getting married! what a homecoming!!! i'll add his photo when i find one he won't object to, lol!


i was in the army in 1968-69 and went to vietnam, 199th inf, chu lai. i married the girl who was my pen-pal, but it didnt work. the war changed my life in every possible way, but i try to stay happy. i had to adjust to life with a double amputation and brain injury. it hasnt been easy but its been worth it. they gave me replacement parts that function well. where theres a will, theres a way... sometimes lots of ways. i found humor along the way and started enjoying life again. helping others has helped me. ive learned the ins and outs of the va system and have used what i learned to help other vets. i had given up on life for the first 10 yrs after the accident, until i met someone with less than me doing more than me. ive learned not to let anything get in the way of doing what i want to do, and never give up. im still learning every day.

im now married to a great lady who also has a sense of humor- have to have humor to tolerate me, haha! we've been together the last 8 yrs. i learned it really helps to get to know a person before getting married. her hobbies are shopping, sewing, and lunch with friends, and lifetime channel. shes been a great support to me through the years. her newest hobby is supporting the troops, sending letters and goodies to the men and women overseas. she participated in the local yellow ribbon campaign. she enjoys helping people as much as i do.
