The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was formed in the southern states after the Civil War.
It promoted white supremacy by violence and scare tactics.
It is made up of only WASP members; that is, WHITE ANGLO-SAXON PROTESTANTS.
Members of the KKK greatly dislike all other types of people,
specifically African Americans, Jews, Homosexuals, and Catholics.
By far the largest cause of hate crimes is racial bias,
with African Americans being at greatest risk.
Close to two-thirds of hate crimes target African Americans.
The type of crime committed against this group has not changed much;
it still includes vandalizing churches, burning crosses, and murder.
Among other racially motivated crimes, about 25% were committed against white people,
7% against Asian Pacific Americans, slightly less than 5% against multiracial groups,
and 1% against Native Americans and Alaskan Natives.
