AKC or CKC (what's the difference?)
We have been asked this question more than any other one.
The CKC stands for the Continental Kennel Club, while the
AKC is the American Kennel Club. Since we register only with the AKC we are a bit partial...and
have good reasons to be. First of all, the AKC is the oldest and most
respected purebred dog registry in the U.S. In order to register a puppy
with the AKC you must provide proof that both the parents are registered
with the AKC and are in good standing with the club. This means that
the
puppy has a traceable lineage (pedigree) and that it is possible to research
many generations back. The AKC promotes clubs and activities throughout
the country for the purebred dogs of each breed. The AKC has strict
rules
and guidelines, as well as record keeping, DNA testing (for frequently
used stud dogs) and yearly on site inspections of breeder's dogs, kennel
and kennel records. We were last inspected on May 18, 2006 and found
to be in complete compliance with the AKC rules and regulations. The AKC's motto "For the Love of the Purebred Dog"
are not just words, they are a principal. Through many national and local
clubs, they strive and EXCEL at continuing the dog fancy, that recognizes
over
150 different breeds of these wonderful animals! To learn more about the specifics of the dachshund breed,
you may visit the AKC
page for dachshunds "The Dachshund is clever, lively and
courageous to the point of rashness"...Ouote from The AKC We're "Doxieholics"™! I fell "in love" with little dachshunds when
I was very young. After I saw the Walt Disney movie, "The Ugly Dachshund",
I pleaded with my parents to get me one. After much searching, we couldn't
locate a breeder. Like most 5 year olds I loved "all animals"
and soon settled for another breed. I always kept my dream that I would
eventually have a dachshund of my own. I mentioned this dream to family and friends over the
years. Then, in 1978 at my wedding reception, you can imagine my surprise
when a close friend apologized for not "wrapping our present".
It was a beautiful, red dachshund puppy and we named him "Tut".
Tut was our first baby and because of a dachshund's devoted nature,
we quickly bonded. He lived through many changing times with us, including
the birth of our first child- but he was always our baby! Over the years our family has grown and although we are
not new to loving & raising dachshunds, we have just now started putting
together a website dedicated to them. I enjoy meeting others who love
them like we do! We will be adding new features and links to our site soon...Thanks
for visiting!!! Colors & Patterns: These are just a few examples of the many variations of
the dachshund coats and colors. The Miniature Dachshund is bred with three
varieties of coat: smooth, longhaired, or wirehaired. The "coat",
of course, refers to both the length and texture of the dachshunds' hair.
