Dollar Store Dolls of Color! (Project 002)

While touring the states I came across some beautiful black little dolls in one of the Dollar Stores. Immediately 3 little girls came in mind who would just be tickled (not to death, not pink…hmmm), just tickled to have one.

I later thought about all the other little girls of color here in Israel and how excited they would be! Not knowing all that much about girlie toys, I asked Lura had she ever seen ‘black dolls’ in Israel and she said “no”.

Wow, I can still remember when black dolls first came out and my baby sister (who now is 53) got one! It was so cool!

After purchasing the 3 dolls, we had one more speaking engagement on our tour, Susan’s (Lura’s sister). I was sharing about the dolls and how awesome it would be if someone could do a ‘car wash’ or something, raise some funds, and send us a box of them.

This was weird and I wasn’t sure why I was sharing all this, when a little girl came forward from the crowd saying that she is a Girl Scout. She told me that she’s been looking for a charity type project to do, a requirement for her next badge and would love make this her project. Wow!

Well, I’ll let you know how this all turns out. But in the meantime, if any of you reading this would like to do likewise, you can send us a box of $1.00 store dolls (marked as gifts) to:

Edwin and Lura Beckford
50/2 Nachal
Arad, Israel

P.S These dolls will be an added asset to us getting the Gospel to the Ethiopians, Black Hebrews, Moroccans, Bedouins, and Arabs. We already have Bibles and tracts in their language!
