Okay, the thing is…the best I could figure out, the Russians were trying to tell me about this Big Chess Tournament being held in Beershva, April 18 thru the 21st . For some reason they all wanted to see this guy Victor Korchnoi. Joe told me that this guy Victor was once the 2nd best chess player in the world, as for me I never heard of him. I also found out later that Joe had competed against Korchnoi, years ago. As some of you already know, if you’ve been following my writings, Joe also had a 3 game math with Spasky a few years ago, resulting in a draw (1, 0, ½).

Well, anyway a van load of us went up to Beeersheva on April 20, 2004 to check out round 7 out of 11. There were 12 players: 10 IGM (one being Korchnoi), 1 IM, and 1GM.

While making this webpage it dawned on me to look this guy Victor Korchnoi up on the net. What I found out almost knocked my socks off. Thus guy is huge! He’s the ‘man’! And his first name is spelt Viktor!
