Imagine the horror - you're in France, in a beautiful little restaurant, your stomah rumbling with demands for some meaty nutrition. 'Chicken' you tell Pierre, the waiter. But instead of delivering you with some tasty poultry, he instead gives you a confused look, thinking you're ordering zigzags in a dodgy accent*.

To make sure this embarrasing episode never ruins your holiday, here's a guide to ordering meat in French.

Chicken = Le poulet

Beef = Le boeuf

Lamb = L'agneau

Pork = Le porc

Ham = Le jambon

Cooked sausage = Le saucisson.
As opposed to....

Sausages = Les saucisses

Steak = Le biftec

Fish = Le poisson
