Dollmaker Help

Step-by-Step how-to

1. Drag the props that you want onto the bodies until your doll looks exactly the way you want it. (for the signature maker, drag the letters onto the bubbles until you've completed your name/writing/etc.)

2. Push the 'print screen' button on your keyboard (between the F12 button and scroll lock - on my computer anyway!)

3. go into a graphics program. Graphics programs are programs like paint shop pro, mspaint, and adobe photoshop. You use them to edit pictures and other images. So anyway, open up whatever graphics program you like.

4. hit 'paste'. The entire screen will show up.

5. erase everything except for your doll/name so that it doesn't look to messy (your browser window, other props - these things will show up when you push 'paste' in the graphics program). You can do this either by using the eraser (usually a small white box) or by selecting parts that you don't want with the lasso (usually looks like a rope tied in a circle) or the selector tool (usually looks like a rectangle with dotted lines)and then pushing 'delete'.

6. If you want to poste the doll on your website or send it to your friends via email, save the doll in .gif form. The way to do this varies depending on what graphics program you are using. For example, Paint Shop Pro automatically saves files as .gifs - you don't have to choose any special options, just file>save. In Adobe Photoshop, go to file>export>GIF89a. Look around for file-format options in the file or save menu in your graphics program - I don't know anything about programs besides the ones mentioned here. Microsoft Paint cannot save files in GIF form. So if you want to use your dolls on the web/in email, don't use MS Paint.

If you don't have a print screen button, go to www.snagit.com and download their program for screen captures. I'm sorry but I can't answer any questions about this because I don't have it on my computer.

Do whatever you like with your doll/name. However, I ask that you please, please, PLEASE don't steal my props! I got the props from The Palace, a chatroom that can be downloaded at www.geocities.com/palaceland. Read all of the directions there and at www.palacetools.com on how to use it, please don't ask me - the basic premise is that you download the program and open it, type in the user name you want, and log on to a palace. The palace that I use most often is www.avatarpalace.net, so try that if you're starting, it's one of the most popular palaces and it's pretty big.
Anyway, back to my site: feel free to make as many dolls/signatures as you like, but if you post any of them on your own site, i would appreciate a link saying that you made your dolls with my dollmaker, or something to that affect.

*thanks* - katrina

FAQ

Q: The props aren't dragging, why?
A: Sometimes the page just loads wrong and you have to try again (refresh the page or go back in your browser - going back usually works better). However, if you have tried multiple times (like five not just one or two, and wait a while between tries becuz something might be screwed up for a little while) then your browser probably isn't compatible with the drag n drop code and it will *never* work (boo hoo! I'm sorry about this but it's not my fault it's just the code.)

Q: How can I make a dollmaker?
A: First you need to collect props from the palace (NOT from other people's sites - this is stealing) then you need to save them on your computer as .gifs (save each prop as a different file otherwise you won't be able to drag them separately). Finally, you need to go to www.dynamicdrive.com and pick up the dragable elements script there. Follow the instructions on the page and you're good to go.

Q: How can I save my dolls?
A: Read the step by step how to over there [*points*]. It tells you all about how to save your dolls, and that good stuff :-D

Q: You stole props from magentasky/dollzmania/etc.!!!
A: I do not steal props from any other dollmakers. However, I do have many of the same props because almost all dollmaker owners get their props from the Palace. The Palace is a prop-trading chatroom. This means that the same props are widely circulated among people. The owner of dollmaker A might have traded props with someone who traded props with someone who traded props with the owner of dollmaker B. Neither of these people has stolen anything. They are normal Palace users who obtain props in legal and normal methods.

Q: How do I email dolls to people?
A: After you save your dolls (see left) you can email them to just about anyone. First, create a new email and type in whatever you want it to say (for example: "Hi Mary! Check out these dolls that I made of you and me!"). Then, if you have Outlook Express, go up to the Insert button and click 'File Attachment' from the dropdown menu. You will be asked to browse through your computer's hard drive until you find the file that you want (in this case, your doll). Once you have found + highlighted it, click 'ok', then send the email normally. If you have AOL, the steps are almost the same, but 'Insert File Attachment' is located at the bottom of the email, instead of on the top menu. I don't have any information about file attachments from other systems (MSN, Yahoo, etc.)

Q: How can I send my dolls to people via AIM?
A: Save your doll (see left), then open up an IM with whoever you want to send your doll to. Click on the 'direct connect' button on the toolbar (it looks kind of like a little mountain). If both of your computers are able to, and your friend agrees, your modems will be directly connected to each other. Once this has happened, right click and go to Insert>Picture, then browse through your hard drive until you find your doll. Click ok and it will enter into your AIM text box. After you press 'enter', it will be sent to your friend.
Note: you may have to maximize the IM in order for the picture to look right - if you keep the window small, it could be somewhat distorted.

Okay, now if you've still got questions you can email me. Please put "pickles are green" into the subject line so that I know you've read the help before attempting to email me with doll problems. Emails that have anything besides "pickes are green" in the subject line and/or have to do with the subjects covered here will be deleted immediately. Please do not ask for further explanation of the help - I have done my very best explaining things here and it would be a waste of both of our time for me to email the same thing to you. An example of this would be, "Hi, I don't understand how to save dolls, could you help me?". I've already done my best job trying to explain it here; if you still don't understand (hey, maybe I'm just bad at explaining things) contact the owner of another dollmaker.
