"Music composed and Conducted by Ken Thorne, based on original material composed by John Williams"

You can get this soundtrack on vinyl & cassette , but it's difficult to find. A store selling old and rare records is your best bet.
The Japanese version has Superman 2 and 3 on one CD.

John Williams was part of the original Ricahrd Donner team, but when Donner was fired, John Williams also jumped ship. Ken Thorne was brought on board to revamp ' Williams' material from the first Supes film. The producers wanted less money spent on the score so Ken Thorne's orchestra was cut by a 3rd to about 60 whilst John Williams had 90 people. Thorne scored only two pieces of original music of Superman II , they are the love scene between Lois and Clark in the fortress and the scene were Clark gets beaten up. Thorne was recommended by Williams to the producers. They thought it would be a good idea to bring him on because he also worked with Richard Lester in the past. I don't think had enough time to do his work at this short notice and he certainly wasn't going to change the theme so all he could was rearrange Williams notes to fit the scenes, he did a very good job and doing and I think he created a more uplifting theme tune turning it in a cultural theme for the world.
