Modifications and Accommodations

Appropriate for Individuals with
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD)

Text Box: “Approximately 2 percent to 9 percent of all children are identified as having ADHD” (Turnbull, Turnbull, & Wehmeyer, 2006), thus it is the most common childhood behavior disorder. A student diagnosed with ADHD will have difficulties controlling their attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. These challenges contribute to the variety of disruptive behaviors seen in ADHD students. “Most students with AD/HD… have deficits in their executive functioning,” which includes nonverbal working memory, internalization of speech, self-regulation, and reconstitution (Turnbull, Turnbull, & Wehmeyer, 2006). To be successful in a school setting, these students need appropriate accommodations and modifications that meet their individual needs. This AB will provide assistance in recognizing behaviors related to ADHD, address problems associated with ADHD, and strategies for teaching and raising a child with ADHD. These websites provide parents and teachers with inventive ways to assist their struggling student in their school, work, socialization, and other aspects of their life.
