About Us

We are a group of 5 students that come from different countries. We are doing this project for our English 403 class at Washington State University during the summer of 2008. This project is under supervision of Professor Siler. The goal of this website is not only for academic purpose, but also to share knowledge about plastic bags and its impact on the environment; also, we hope to encourage people to minimize the number of plastic bags they use.

While doing this project, our team member has suggested that everyone in the team start collecting data of their daily usage of plastic bag for a period of time and then compare with data we got from our research. After only one week, we are astonished to know how much plastic bags are being used. An estimate of between 50 and 80 billion plastic bags per year is discarded (Martin, 2008). Over a long period of time the total amount of usage will accumulate. The earth will be full of plastic. Plastic does not dissolve in the ground easily and it could last for more than 1000 years (Angier, 2008). Many possible problems may arise in the future. As mentioned in our articles about problems related to plastic bags, it could kill pets, animals, wild life etc. We need to start taking appropriate action now before it is too late.

We can save the environment by trying not to use plastic bags if possible. Because plastic bags are lightweight, cheap and it does the jobs we want, plastic bags are being used everywhere for any purposes. However, plastic bags are not the only choice we have, we can always substitute it with paper bags or reusable cloth bags. Switching from plastic bags to reusable bags is saving the environment.

Environment is important for everyone. We all should participate in anyway to save it. As a group of students, we are concerned about the consequence of plastic bags to our environment and the future. We like to keep our environment as clean as possible for us, for our children, for our grandchildren, for our great-great children and long future generation. We would like to invite everyone all over the world through this website to join us.
