2012 seems a new year for the students who were just sent to school.

The Department of Education (DepEd) have just implemented the new curriculum which is K-12. K-12 because the students should finished 12 years of schooling (instead of the 10 years in the Basic Education Curriculum including the kindergarten ---- 6 years in elementary and 6 years in high school). The first year now will be called Grade 7. Junior High for the grades 7-10 and Senior High for the grades 11 and 12.

This curriculum is widely used in some foreign countries. This is why DepEd come up with an idea that the Philippines should have the same curriculum for us not to be left out. This curriculum was decongested, meaning the students will no longer cram for their lessons. They will have long time to study and to gain knowledge. At an early age, the students are more knowledgeable about the things that they supposed to learn in the later years of their schooling. The students also will be prepared for their future. They can gain not just 1, 2 but 3 or more certificates that will make their applications more easier. And Lastly, Filipinos will not be discriminated when they go abroad.

Beyond these advantages .. K-12 also have disadvantages  .

Because of the long time of schooling, parents will have more expenses for their children. As we all know, not all parents can afford to send their children in the school. How much more if there will be a long time schooling? How should the government will provide for the needs of the students for some educational materials if today, the problem of lack of educational materials is still there? Also, regarding with the indigenous people, they will suffer more than what they experience of today's difficulty. And I think, the Spiral approach is not advisable because the students are not that fast to catch up a particular lesson especially if the teachers will teach the lessons all at once.

These are just my opinions about K-12. Although we have long time to study, let us look for the bad effects of having this new curriculum.
