Regal Oak was so named by surveyors sent to the area to see if there was any land that wasn’t swamp. One of the surveyors was reminded of the “Regal Oak” King Charles I and his army took refuge under. The rest is as they say history. Fast forward to the year 2006. In the shadow lands regal oak is relatively safe from the chaotic sprawl of Detroit. The immense wind warped regal oak yet stands in the shadow lands. For reasons unknown spectres refuse to or cannot approach beneath massive canopy. Regal Oak is loosely controlled by the hierarchy. Detroit is barely controlled by the hierarchy. The urban violence in the skin lands is present in the shadow lands. There are renegades who oppose the hierarchy on philosophic reasons like forging wraiths into currency; however they are the exception rather than the rule. Renegade bands are always on the lookout for new members to reap. Wraiths who don’t fit the bill usually find their way to the forges via a third party. Renegades in Detroit lay claim to as many haunts as they can and routinely fight over them. Hierarchy representatives in Detroit do not have enough support to fully extinguish the threat. The guilds have moved out from the city center over the years and to areas like regal oak. The most prominent guild in regal oak is the sandmen. They are responsible for most of the entertainment in the city. In Detroit the most prominent guild is the artificers who seem to be forever forging renegades and weak specters. In Detroit in a magnificent old church on Woodward Ave there is a group of heretics without religious affiliation who seek transcendence. They are not bothered by the hierarchy for they posses artifact that can repel specters. There are so many people who cross the shroud every day in the greater Detroit area that despite the danger many wraiths go out of their way to reap. Some do it to add numbers to the legions and fight the good fight. Some do it to turn a quick profit. Others reap to save these enfant wraiths the suffering they would surely suffer if reaped by those with an agenda. |
