Legislative branch of government

When you complete this WebQuest you should be able to explain what the main job of the Legislative Branch is  You will also know who your state senators are - and your representative in congress is.

 

Your end of the week assignment will be to chart how a bill becomes a law.  You should use graphics to illustrate this process.  See below for the rubric for how this assignment will be graded.

 

Use the following websites to help you on your quest.

 

Website #1 is the website of the House of Representatives This website will help you find your Representative in Washington.  Make sure you know your zip code, as you will be required to put this information in to the form on this page. 

Website #2 is the website of the United States Senate This website will help you find who your Senators are.  All you need to find this information - is to know what state you live in.

Website #3 is a think quest page about the Legislative Branch of government.  This site will give you some important information on the qualifications of becoming a member of Congress.  Check out the links embedded in this site.

Website # 4 entitled "TalkToGov" gives some great information on how a bill becomes a law.  This site also has a great idea for how you might lay out your chart for the week's assignment.

  • Who is the first to introduce tax bills (why?)
  • What is each step a bill takes in Congress?
  • Does the President have to sign a bill for it to become law without vetoing it?
  • What happens if the President vetos the bill?
