SMKSA, formerly known as Kampung Bahru Girls'
was founded in 1923. The
founders of the
school were TYM Tunku Sulong or Tunku Ibrahim,
Ahmad Idid, Tuan E.A.G Steward and
Encik Ismail bin Puteh. It was
situated in the
compounds of the castle belonging to Cik Chempa
the first wife of the late Sultan Abdul
Hamid. It catered solely to the daughters of royalty
high ranking government officers. The school
was named after the
then Sultanah of Kedah Duli
Yang Maha Mulia Tunku Asma binti Almarhum
Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alam Shah.
