~ WEST CHESTER COMMUNITY PERFORMERS HISTORY ~

Educators and long time friends, Ruby Perkins and Janice Leonard Peace, founded the West Chester Community Performers in 1983, in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
West Chester Community Performers is a not-for-profit, volunteer, cultural and performing arts organization. All proceeds from our productions and special events, go towards book scholarship awards for college bound students.

~ GOALS ~

To develop pleasure and skill in reading and interpreting drama and acquaint members and community with significant dramatic works.

To acquaint members and community with the dramatic tradition, and the role of drama in the history of humans.

To encourage interest in the theater and the support of community ventures in drama and the performing arts.

To increase awareness and appreciation of the works of African American playwrights, Theater and Performing Arts.

To increase understanding of the importance of drama as a source of insight into personal and social problems.

~ PAST PERFORMANCES ~

WCCP's debut performance of VOICES OF DUNBAR, featured the poetry of PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR at MILESTONE EVENTS Events on April 18, 2009 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, it was a huge success! Many folks experienced Dunbar's poetry for the first time, others enjoyed revisiting his work through our unique interpretations.

A performing arts theater of historical and contemporary humor, drama, poetry, song, and dance, featuring the works of : Sojourner Truth, Langston Hughes, Paul Laurence Dunbar, James Weldon Johnson, Margaret Walker, Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, Mari Evans, and others.

STEAL AWAY by Ramona King
A delightful full act play about five upstanding church women who resort to drastic and sometimes comedic measures to raise money to send a girl to college during the 1920's.

REMEMBER US, THE WOMAN, by Warren & Speer
A reader’s theater dramatization of the Old Testament women; Mrs. Noah, Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Leah, Woman of Endor, Deborah, Delilah, Queen of Sheba, and Mariam. Share their fascinating stories!

BIBLE HER STORY
A one-act play in six scenes with an all-women cast that features Bible stories from a uniquely female humorous perspective. Characters include Eve, Noah’s wife, Sarah, Mariam, Queen of Sheba and others.
