The journey to the pageant in Wyoming was quite interesting. We were headed across South Dakota to pick up Rainbow's Aunt Maria, who lives in the Badlands area on the Pine Ridge Reservation, when I took a wrong turn and ended up on the interstate instead of in the Badlands. It was a good thing I did, because on the interstate, our Motor Home suddenly lost all electrical power, sputtered, backfired and died. I managed to coast into a rest stop in neutral. Thank goodness I made that wrong turn and broke down at a rest stop on the interstate instead of in the middle of the Badlands on a remote highway!
So, we then had to tow and replace the alternator in the RV, after being delayed all afternoon, we were finally on our way again, picking up Maria and headed west. We finally made it into Casper at about 4AM, with the pageant due to start at 8AM. We got about 2 hours of restless excited sleep before having to wake up to get ready for the pageant.
Sportswear was first and Rainbow was excited to wear her new sportswear outfit, she had been looking forward to the trip for weeks, and even though she was very tired, she still was excitedly jumping around the room and ready to go!
This was Rainbow's first pageant, so she was new to the stage and modeling, but she still did a great job. She made friends right away with some of the other little girls, and they all had fun exchanging gifts and ooooohing and ahhhhhhhing over each others little dresses and outfits.
In the formal dress part of the pageant, Rainbow relaxed a little bit and managed a wave at the judges as she crossed the stage, and got one little modeling spin in.
When she was called up first, she was awarded the Miss Photogenic sash, trophy and medal on the shots Mom (me) took and developed at the one hour photo at Wal-Mart. I figure she got the award because she still looked really cute, inspite of my bad amature photography!
As she received all of her awards, they kept adding more medals around her neck, then the purple robe, crown, sceptor, flowers and two trophies and Rainbow had this cute bewildered look on her face. She knew that what was happening was very very good and that she won, but was not quite sure what to make of the whole audience cheering for her and applauding. After she was crowned, the audience was asked to "stand and acknowledge the New Little Miss South Dakota Baby Petite, Rainbow Star Zephier!!!"
After the crowning, Rainbow was also honored with a beautiful satin star quilt that was made by the family of Gabriella Mae Boyd, Little Miss Montana Petite.
It was an amazing fun experience, Rainbow was tired from the all night trip, but she had looked forward to the pageant for so long, she stuck to it and gave it her all.
WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU, RAINBOW, GOOD JOB!!!!!!!
