About Michelle:
Michelle first
started skating at age 5. She tagged along with her
brother, Ron to hockey practice. She decided to take
lessons with her sister, Karen. At first her parents
didn't let her since they thought she was too young,
then she complained that she was always too young to
do anything. So they finally gave in. She had lots of
talent. Several years later, she went to many
important competitions and placed in lots of them. Some of
the competitions include US Nationals, Worlds, and
also the Olympics! At the 1994 Nationals, she finished in
2nd just behind Tonya Harding. She made the olympic
team! But since Nancy Kerrigan had been attacked by Tonya's husband,
the USFSA thought it wasn't fair that she wouldn't
get to go. They thought that she would've made the Olympic team
if she competed. So Michelle's first Olympics landed at
Nagano, Japan in the year 1998. Michelle was too
nervous to do her best, so she ended up with the
silver medal, closely behind Tara Lipinski who skated
joyously and charmed the judges. Her second Olympics
was in 2002, where she won 3rd place behind Irina
Slutskaya and Sarah Hughes. Then, in 2003 at the US
Nationals and World Championships, she recieved many
perfect marks and won the gold medal in both. This
year, she won the U.S. Nationals again with a total of 8 titles!
She skated beautifully in the free skate and received 7 6.0's.
Michelle is still now chasing her dream of becoming
an Olympian figure skater. She still remembers her
motto: Practice hard and never give up!!!
