Third baseman Morgan Ensberg showed
exceptional improvement and was one of the Astros' top hitters in
his break-out performance in 2003. In 385 trips to the plate
that summer, Ensberg hit a respectable .291batting average.
His 25 homers left him tied for third on the team in the Going-Yard
Department. He drove in 60 RBIs and scored 69 runs. In the field, Ensberg's
play at the hot corner was magnificent. Ensberg got his start at U. S. C.. A third-team All-American at Southern California in 1998, Morgan signed with Houston's ball club that summer after the Trojans' amazing championship run. Two years later, his major-league debut came in September 2000. After spending the 2001 season at New Orleans (AAA), where he hit .310 with 23 home runs and 61 RBI in only 87 games. Ensberg had a strong spring in 2002 and was named the Opening Day third baseman for the Astros. Ensberg, who ended his career as a Trojan at U. S. C. with 40 home runs, which ranks third behind Mark McGwire and Geoff Jenkins, smashed his first major-league home run on April 20, 2002, against San Francisco. |
