The Proposal

On our 4 year anniversary October 19th, 2005 my boyfriend Frank proposed to me. Everyone knew we were getting married, it was just a matter of an "official proposal." I didn't need a ring or a special evening, but Frank wants the world for me & gave it to me anyway.

It started off a little bad because he was supposed to pick me up at 7:30P.M. (mind you he lives next door to me). He got off work at 6:00P.M. & remembered that he needed to wear pants tonight (which he hadn't washed or bought new ones). So at that point he went to buy pants. At 7:30P.M. when he was supposed to already be here, he was calling me telling me that he had to buy pants & would be home soon. He had already showered & he didn't need to shave so all he would have to do is dress & be over. An hour later he arrived at my house claiming that he had some last minute things to do (yeah, wrap my presents because he's a procrastinator & waits until he's late to pick me up to do it).

He took me out to eat at one of my favorite places The Big Cheese. Unfortunately, there were no more booths available so we had to sit in the middle of the aisle with 2 gay guys looking at us; a girl talking about vaginas; waiters bustling by; & some fat, 50 year old woman who has had way too much plastic surgery on her face, but none on her upper thighs & decided to wear an itty-bitty mini skirt & then cross her legs right in front of me so I could see her ass any time I looked up. Anyway, we finished eating at 10:00P.M. & then Frank had me close my eyes as he drove to our second destination.

As we were driving I noticed that thing got dark like we were in a residential neighborhood, but what neighborhood was this dark...? Coral Gables! Okay, but what is in Coral Gables. I know he wasn't taking me to the Biltmore so where? Last, Christmas Frank & I had gone to eat at the restaurant The Red Fish Grill in Matheson Hammock which is on the water near where my parents docks there boat. I had mentioned to Frank that by the lagoon was a perfect engagement place (hint, hint). Was he taking me there now? A few minutes later I smelt fish & heard water under the car. A few minutes after that Frank parked the car & I heard him lower his window & talking to a guard. He told me I could open my eyes. Our car was sitting in 10 inches of sea water. The ocean had risen several feet over normal high tide because of Hurricane Wilma & Red Fish grill had to be evacuated because the parking lot was under water. Basically, you could drive your car in the parking lot, but you couldn't tell when the parking lot ended & you plummeted into the ocean! So we left.

After this incident I knew he was going to propose which was good because I had bought him his wedding ring so I could give it to him when he hopefully proposed tonight. He took me to where he works by Dadeland Mall & drove up to the highest floor. We got out & looked down at all the lights & beautiful scenery. (We were on the 10th floor). I asked him to leave though shortly after because I felt a little uneasy being up there. (Roof-top killers you know... I'm paranoid sometimes).

From there we drove down to South Beach. We walked down to the pier & found a lighted area. Here he told me I could open my huge bag of presents. He told me to dig past the tissue paper & confetti on the left first. There I found an adorable Tinkerbell shirt, Gilmore Girl's 2nd season (he already gave me the 1st), A midsummer Night's Dream, & a very sweet & very gorgeous card. Now he told me to dig down on the right side. Here I found another small bag with a beautiful ceramic flower.

Then he proceeded to take it away from me! "What are you doing" I said. "Give it back I haven't looked at it." He took it from me & in his new pants got down on in the sand on one knee opened the rose & said: "Lindsay, will you marry me?"

I didn't say anything. Instead I reached into my purse & grabbing the box with his ring opened it & said "What do you think?" Inside the box was his ring & a paper that flipped up saying "yes."
