About Skywise and his Family
Skywise's life has been anything but easy. Orphaned at birth due to the death of both parents, the newborn Skywise was found floating upon the river, bundled in his mother's oiled leather cloak, as she had set him adrift to save his life. Here Bearclaw pulled him the waters and brought him back to the Holt. Skywise was raised by all, everyone older being his mother and father, everyone younger his companions and playmates. One can assume he bonded with Starjumper around the age of 5 or 6, which is the age when most cubs find their first Wolf-Friend (Three years after the Palace War, Starjumper was badly wounded in a fight with Dodia's desert wolf, Skimsand. Seeing it was too late to save his Wolf-Friend, Skywise had to painfully put the old wolf out of it's misery.) But it was the birth of Cutter, in Skywise's 8th year, that changed everything. Skywise saved the infant from a Spirit-Maker Spider as soon the cub was born. (Other sources have shown it to have been a snake). This saving solidified the bond between tribemate and future Chief and Cutter and Skywise became inseparable. The two had many adventures together, some funny, others quite dangerous, but as Cutter grew up, so did Skywise's interests lean toward other things instead of silly cubbling games. As Skywise reached puberty and became fascinated with the Wolfrider maidens, Cutter became somewhat of a pest to his friend, always tagging along and getting in the way of Skywise and Foxfur. Elfquest Book 8b: In all but Blood, reveals how Cutter and Skywise learned each other's Soul Name. When Rayek stole the Palace away, the 500 year gap in the ages of both friends changed everything as Skywise, Leetah and the cubs were thrown 10,000 years into the future. Fearing the whole tribe now dead, Skywise pleaded for Leetah to cleanse his Wolf-Blood, making him immortal, a fate he sorely regretted ever afterwards. Only minutes later was the tribe reunited. But now Cutter, sporting face-fur, was many times the elder and Skywise began to feel resentment and abandonment as he now believed that Cutter no longer needed him to guide or council him anymore. Despondent and desperate, Skywise made an ill choice of calling to the Palace in an attempt to get his Wolf-Blood back. This caused some dire problems for the Tribe as Skywise, mentally, turned into an enraged wolf, attacking everything in his way. Only when Cutter dangled the Loadstone in front of him, did Skywise return to normal. Skywise has since come to accept his fate, knowing he will, one day, have to watch his tribemates die one by one. Over the course of his short life, Skywise has become known as the "Playboy" of Elfquest, with one Lovemate after another. His first, and shortest lasting love, was Foxfure. Sadly, Foxfur was killed by Madcoil. Six years later in the Sun Village, Skywise became Lovemate to 3 maidens at once, Maleen, Ruffel, and Vurdah (the last of which even trying to convince Skywise to have a child with her). Sometime later, in Blue Mountain Skywise became Lovemate to the Glider women, Aroree of the Chosen Eight. During the "wild orgy celebration" the night before the Great Troll/Elf War for the Palace, Skywise (unknowingly) conceived his first cub with an unnamed Go-Back maiden, out of Recognition. This cub was Yun, who only many years later learned of her father and of her half-wolf blood. Skywise didn't learn he had a daughter until the end of the Shards series when all elvin tribes were reunited in the restored Palace Ship. Yun stayed with Skywise for a bit, until she took leave with Ember's Wild Hunt Tribe. (It's highly speculated there may be other cubs as well, but none have of yet been confirmed.) Since retuning to the original Holt, Skywise has become Lovemate to Timmain and the speculation is high as to if the two are destined to Recognize. Under Timmain's tutelage, Skywise has come to learn how to master the powers of the Palace, traveling to the stars and beyond.
