The prompt for this essay was: You are applying for a summer internship in a field that you think you would like to pursue as a lifelong career. The internship will give you a chance to see what working in this field is really like and will also look terrific on your college applications and job resumes. You want to make a strong impression on the application, which reads in part:

While we would like to receive a standard resume summarizing your education and experience, we are even more interested in the unique qualities that make you, the very qualities that are not obvious on resumes. Please include a brief essay that conveys these qualities and shows why you would be suited for our internship program.

I would like to become a teacher so I can help inspire kids the way a few teachers have inspired me. A few teachers who were great would be my fourth grade teacher who helped me overcome some obstacles, and my seventh and eighth grade science teacher who made laerning fun. I would like to help kids learn things by making their learning experience enjoyable. I have completed eleventh grade and am currently in twelfth grade. I have had volunteer experience with both children and adults. I also go to my old elementary school every chance I get to help out in former teachers classrooms.

Since 1999 I have been volunteering for the city in which I live, many of the things I did involved children. One of my favorite things to do is make balloon animals for kids, and to see their faces light up because a "big" person acknowledged them. Another thing I did was children's crafts, we did everything from making puppets to drawing with sidewalk chalk. I think I had as much fun doing the crafts as the children did.

My mom works at the same elementary school that I attended so I go help in her classrooms. Ever since junior high, every day that I didn't have school I would go help out in a second grade class. My favorite thing to help kids with is reading, it is fun because they try to use different voices for different characters, and still struggle with some words. The kids are just happy to have somebody there to actually listen to them read.

Another thing that would qualify me to enter this internship is my babysitting experience. I have a younger brother and sister. So I know a lot about kids. I have been babysitting a little girl named Alyssa since she was about a year old, and she is now six years old and in the first grade. She has a lot of energy, and sitting stillwas hard for her so trying to teach her how to read was extremely difficult.

I believe I am qualified for the position in your internship program because I have a lot of experience with kids. I hope that I will be seriously considered for this program and I want to thank you for taking the time to read about my qualifications. I really would like to become a teacher.
