The horses are finally off in the last, and one of the most
anticipated, race of the day! Two fillies and three colts burst through the
gates and settle into their positions, most along the rail. Deep mud is hard
for the horses to gallop through. The small field is an advantage though.
The race is full of frunt runners, which makes it challenging for the
jockeys to settle their horses in. Wonder doesn't seem to enjoy the mud, and
is having a hard time to pull through it, but Shadowbrook's Fantasy has no
problem plowing through to the lead. Ultimate Speed follows in a close,
secure second, with Osiris's Desert Strom just a 1/2 lead behind. Sunny Day
also seems to have a bit of a problem with the off surface, but he is still
a very game colt and he continues to give his best to struggle into 4th
place. Shadowbrook's Fantasy has lead wire to wire, though Osiris's Desert
Strom, with a last rally of all his strength, nearly beat him out for the
top spot. Two leads back, Ultimate Speed was still galloping steadily
through the sloppy track in third, but Sunny Day's valiant efforts prevailed
as she rampaged past. Ultimate Speed finished only 1/2 lead behind in 4th.
Wonder finished in last place, because she disliked the muddy track and she
was not suited for this distance.
