TEAM NB NEWSLETTER # 1 - January 28, 2004

Hello everyone!

First of all, I would like to congratulate each and everyone of you for your selection to Team NB for the 2004 ESSO Nationals. The coaching staff is very pleased with the team that has been assembled and we are excited about getting to Sherwood Park, Alberta and showing the rest of the country what New Brunswick has to offer.

This is the first edition of the Team NB Newsletter for 2004. In an effort to bring our team together before our arrival in Sherwood Park, we will be relying on e-mail and technology to help bring everyone together and start gelling as a team. The coaching staff will use e-mail to provide you with different systems, face-offs, etc. that you will be expected to know in preparation for Nationals. As well, the Newsletter will contain different team building activities which will help us get to know each other a little better prior to Nationals. The newsletter will also be used to give updates from other staff members about financial issues, interesting activities, etc.

As we discussed at the Orientation Meeting in Fredericton, the coaching staff are firm believers in positive thinking and team play. We want to stress from the start that when we go to Nationals we are going as a team and not as individuals. We believe that good teams stick together in the good times and the bad and if we are to be successful, then we have to back each other at all times. We will do our best as a staff to prepare you for this event, but it will be up to you as an athlete to prepare yourself to the best of your ability and prepare yourself to compete against the best teams from each of the other provinces. There is no doubt in our minds that we can go to Sherwood Park and compete for a medal. We have to make sure that each of the players feel this way and have the same goal in mind.

Some of you will be playing at Nationals for the first time, while others have been to the Nationals on various occasions. Whatever your story is, you have to come ready to play and give everything you have to the team. Each of you will have a role to play and if you fulfill your role and your commitment to the team, then we will be successful. Remember, that every time you do something, some people are seeing you for the first time and others are seeing you for the last time, be sure to give each of these people something positive to remember by the way that you act and play.

We have attached a list of players so that you will know who your teammates will be when you hit the ice in Sherwood Park. Please feel free to contact any of these players in an effort to get to know each other a little better. I am sure that all members of the team would love to hear from you.

Final thought for today........."Failure is not failure to meet your goal. Real failure is failure to reach as high as you possibly can."
