Westinghouse OV-35 Clamshell

The Westinghouse OV-35 remote ballasted clamshell shown here is a huge luminaire designed to operate 700-1000 watt mercury lamps, this one has a 1000 watt lamp inside. The OV-35, from what I have read, was introduced in 1957, and continued in production at least through the early to mid 1960s. I assume this one could be from the early 1960s, since the glass has the newer W (with dots) logo, while the ring, at the slipfitter area, has the older W logo, unless the glass itself is an replacement one installed later, but it is still not completely known. Anyway enjoy the pics!

The huge 1000 watt lamp inside is a Sylvania DX white, with the clear band on the end, which date to the late 1970s. I have hooked this luminaire up to a 1000 watt CWA ballast, and oh man it gets SOOOOO bright you can barely look at it!

You can see both the old and new W logos on the glass and ring. This luminaire could have been manfactured at a time when they changed from the old W to new W, or the glass itself might be a later replacement glass, it is not known.
