History

Cacao became valuable when Columbus discovered cacao beans and sent it back to King Ferdincard. Although the beans were not very popular yet, later Cortes discovered the Aztecs drinking a bitter drinks that was made from cacao beans. Cortes sent back a few beans along with some recipe to Europe where the chocolate drinks was eventually refined to improve the taste. Because of the high cost of making chocolate, the drink was only available to the wealthy.

Countries in South America sold cacao beans to Europeans countries such as Switzerland so that they could make products such as chocolate.

Cacao beans are exported to many countries where chocolate is made. Some prime countries are United States, Switzerland, France, and Italy.

Cacao beans were first transported by ship when European explorers shipped them back to Europe for their kings.
