Stabilizer, page 1



Here I am zinc chromating the stabilizer spars, doublers and ribs. I also did the skin mating surfaces and have pictures of that too, but they are boring.

This shot shows the bottom of the stabilizer with skin attached. The two pieces of angle coming through the skin and the big piece at the back are attach points. This is where the stabilizer will be attached to the fuselage.

I had to use four load straps and some weights to get the top of the skin to lay flat.

The pre-drilled pilot holes in the top of the skin were a little off at the main spar. I felt that they fell a little too close to the flange edge, so I drew a new rivet line and placed the rivets where I thought they should be.

Here is the nearly finished stabilizer.

The elevator has been mated to the stabilizer. The fiberglass tips will be mounted after the stabilizer has been mounted on the fuselage.
