Chapter 2: Over a Piece of a Milk Carton

Vicky slide down against the wall, tiredly. After she came from Bangkok airport, she only gets to rest a bit in her new apartment. After that, it took more than two hours to unpacked, and still some of the boxes weren't even open yet.

"After I settle down a bit, I need to buy some new furniture... and food." She soon realized there was only a small supply of food in her refrigerator.

She got up and walked to the small kitchen to open the refrigerator. The only thing that was in there was two apples and a can of Pepsi Vanilla. 'Oh my god! I do need to go shopping for food or else I will starve to death by tonight.' The thought of dying of starvation in her new apartment spook her, so she left hurriedly with her purse.

She stood outside of her apartment with no clue how to get to a marketplace without an automobile. Suddenly, she remembers that her boss has sent her a company car to drive until she can afford to buy her own. She smacks the side of her head for forgetting such thing.

She walked into the garage and presses the alarm button. She was looking for the beeping sound from any car. Finally she spotted it. It was the black 2003 Lexus.

"Nice!" She exclaimed as she got into the car. "Now, I need to know where's the nearest marketplace is!"

"Mr. Pondee, your son has arrived from London now, sir." A man in his late thirties spoke.

An older man in his late forties lifted his eyes from his newspaper and look at him. "Where is he now?"

"Uh, um, he just called to inform us that he doesn't need a chauffeur to pick him up. He already parks his car in the airport already, sir."

The man sighed and gently folded his newspaper together. "He so reckless." He looks at his wife across the table from him. "Someone could easily steal that car in the airport garage."

Before the lady took a sip of her cup of water, she answers, "That's strange. He reminded me of you when you were younger."

The other man chuckled, and then stops when his boss shot him a glare.

"Anyway, Mr. Chai, have you send the company car to Miss Jett's apartment yet?" He continued to eat his dinner.

"Yes sir. I have sent one to her apartment before she arrived from America." He answered.

"Good." After he took a bite of meat and swallowed it, he responded, "I hope she feels comfortable working with us, and I hope that my son will grow up and find a suitable wife soon."

Mr. Chai raised both of his eye brows as he took a sip of his cold water.

After a few minutes of driving around the city of Bangkok, she finally found a grocery store near her apartment. She parked the car and went inside. She stopped inside at the front entrance as she gazed around the huge grocery store. It reminded her so much of Safeway in America. She never guesses that Thai's grocery stores would look so similar like in America's.

She took a basket, and then decided to get a cart instead when she realized how much food she was going to buy. First, she went to the frozen food aisle to get some, well, actually, a lot of frozen food boxes. Her mom may be a great cooker, but she didn't inherit that much talent from her. Next, she went to the fruits and vegetables section to get some fresh fruits. After all, she does want to be healthy, too. All she need right now is milk and a few soda cans. By the time, she reach the diary aisle, there were only one carton of 2% milk on the stand. When she reaches out to get it, another hand was trying to grab it at the same time. It was a man in his early twenties. He won't let go of the milk carton. She won't surrender that easy.

"Um, sir, I think I have seen this carton first." She replied.

"Uh, I don't think so. It appears that I saw it first." He responded.

He may handsome, but he's one stubborn jerk. Vicky thought as she examined him closely. He's taller than her, about six feet something, has nice black hair, and the eyes... the eyes. She stopped in time when she remembers she's fighting for the carton of milk. "Excuse me. It's just a piece of carton of milk."

"Exactly, so let go of it."

"No!" Now this guy is getting on her nerve.

Tik examined her more closely. 'She's pretty, around the early twenties, I guess, nice height average five feet and four inches maybe, but so stubborn. She won't even give up the milk.'

"Hey, why won't you take the gallon one over there? It's still milk." She asked him.

"I don't like it when they come in a gallon. They're too big, I like it small. Beside, why won't you take it?"

"Look, why don't you be the gentleman and let me have it for now. I have been driving so long to find this grocery in this huge city. I don't need you to ruin my day any further."

Tik was amused. He never met anyone as stubborn as he was. "Fine." He let go of the carton, slowly.

          She eyed him suspiciously.

"Beside, you do need the protein and calcium anyway." With that, he walked away.

'How dare he say that?!' Vicky rushed toward him and faces him directly. "Here!" She shoved the milk carton to him. "You need it more than me!"

Tik watched her walked away from the aisle with her cart. He smiled while amusement danced in his eyes.

She never met anyone like him. 'I can't believe he says I need the proteins and calcium...' She thought to herself as she walked to the check stand and wait in line. 'I do need to buy a milk carton, though. How could I eat cheerio without milk? I guess I can buy it another day when my mood is much jollier than now.'
