Breeding

hamsters you get from OCHR are not breeding hamsters! Why? Well, after being rescued, they have already been put through enough stress and don't need the stress of having babies.Another reason is that, what would you do with the babies when they are weaned? They each have to be in their own cage(syrians), or in same sex pairs(dwarves. That requires a lot of money, and a lot of cages. What would you do if no one wanted them, not even pet stores? All of those hamsters are a lot of work, and a lot of time and money. If you couldn't keep them then the entire rescue preocess begins again. You give them to the shelter and then rescues like this one rescue them and put them up for adoption. EACH hamster, once weaned, needs to be handled for at leats 30 minutes!!!Do you have enough time? Most people don't want hamsters from someone that doesn't know what they are doing or someone that doesn't handle their hamsters. If you don't handle them, how will they be tamed. As they get older, they are harder to tame and people who buy them from you won't be to happy with an untamed hamster. The average litter size for a Syrian is about 8 pups but can be anywhere from 1-26. Ther average litter size for a dwarf is 6, but can have anywhere from 1-16 pups. Please consider what you have just read. DO NOT BREED THESE HAMSTERS!
