Chapter 8

Crying on the Inside
By: Stacey Scott

"Well Mr. Timberlake you've got the job as far as I'm concerned," Mr. Maser said standing up. Justin stood up and shook his hand.

"Thanks. Diana said you were nice," he said getting in a little flattery. Justin told him the situation about him being new in town and his father's job not starting yet. Mr Maser liked him right away and when he mentioned Diana he immediately gave him a job.

"Do you mind just helping the customers for now and then I'll get you all set up on the register," Mr Maser asked.

"Nope. I used to work the register at my old job," Justin answered.

"Well come in tommorow and I'll have the department manager set you up," Mr. Maser said esorting Justin out the office.

"Yes. Thank you so much sir," Justin said getting ready to leave.

"Aww son call me Rich," he said giving Justin a wink. Justin smiled and was happy at how nice this guy was and how everything turned out.

Justin left to look around the rest of the mall. His appointment was at 3:00 so he went there straight after school and didn't look around. He went and looked at most of the stores considering places he wanted to shop. Then he saw her again. He saw her face this time and he definately was in love. She had a round face and cat-like eyes surrounded by curly eyelashes and chubby cheeks that looked like they were pinched a lot by her relatives when she was younger. She was perfect. She was with two other girls, one blond one brunette. They were pretty but didn't come close to Michelle. They went into Wet Seal and he was tempted to follow but decided to go home. But curiousity got the best of him and he walked by the store on his way out. He saw her face but in her eyes he saw something else. Sort of like sadness or unhappiness. He wanted to approach her but needed to know more about her. He would ask Diana at school the next day.

The next day Justin went to school he decided he would get to know his classmates. He needed to make friends. It looked like they would be there for a while.

Standing by his locker he heard the noise in the hallway get a lttle lower. He wondered what was going on. Then she walked by. He looked at everyone staring at her as if she were the main attraction. She was still beautiful. She smelled like watermelon again when she walked by him. She had on a short tan halter dress with tan canvas sneakers. She had her hair up today which exposed her neck and shoulders. He wanted to grab her and kiss her. She looked straight ahead as she walked by and went to her locker. she went inside and got her things, closed the locker and waited. Then her friends walked by and went to their lockers and everyone stared at them. Then a few minutes later Justin saw three guys. They walked by and went to the girls. The tall guy with the brown hair held Michelle and kissed her and the six of them walked down the hall together in couples. Justin was jealous already. When he got to class he saw Diana.

"Hey Diana," he said sitting next to her. She smiled when she saw him. He told her about getting the job and going in to work today. She was happy for him.

"I need to ask you something," he said.

"Sure go ahead," she said thinking maybe he would ask her out.

"I need to know about that girl Michelle and her friends. Can you tell me anything?" he asked. Her smile faded.

"You like her don't you? Well it figures," she said. Justin couldn't deny it so he kept quiet. The bell rang and class started.

"Since you insist on knowing, meet me after class and I'll tell you everything," she leaned over and whispered to him. Justin smiled. Now he would finally know the girl he knew he loved.
