Chapter 14

Crying on the Inside
By: Stacey Scott

The first thing on Michelle's mind the next morning was not JC. It was Justin. She thought about him the whole time until she got to school where she saw him. He was standing at his locker watching her walk toward him. She stopped near him.

"Hi," he said.

"Hi," she said. Neither knew what to really say. They had become so close last night.

"Um, I need to talk to you about-" he started to say when Michelle's friends came in and saw her standing there. They stopped, stared and waited. Michelle turned to Justin and gave him a sort of sad look before walking away.

"Who is that?" Brianna said looking back at him.

"Justin," she answered.

"Who's Justin?" Heather said.

"Just a guy," she said. But they could see her facial expressions.

"From the way you're acting he seems more than just a guy," Brianna said when they reached their lockers.

"Is there something you're not telling us?" Heather said smiling.

"No. I gave him a ride home yesterday that's it and I stopped by to say hi to him. Is that wrong?" Michelle said. She wouldn't dare tell her friends where she really was last night.

"Why? Doesn't he have a car?" Heather asked.

"No," she answered.

"No car? Are you serious? That's so tacky," Brianna said.

Michelle looked at them both as if they were crazy. Just then the guys came in the school. Things quieted down when the guys reached them and they started walking down the hall together. JC held onto Michelle's waist as they walked. He held her behind the others.

"What happened to you last night?" JC asked her. He looked her in the eye and she found it hard to lie to him. But she couldn't tell him where she really was.

"I fell asleep last night. I had so much homework and I was really tired," she said looking down.

"Well you should have called me so I would know. I waited for you all night," he said.

"I'm sorry," she said. They kept walking and she hoped he wouldn't bring the subject up again.

"I'll pick you up tonight okay," he said. She had to think fast but she coudn't think of an excuse. Before she knew it they were sitting in class and before she could tell him a lie class had started.

In lunch that day Justin kept looking over at Michelle. She kept looking at him to but not to long. She seemed like she was trying to ignore him but couldn't. He finished his food and left out hoping she wouldn't be to far behind. He walked slowly down the hall.

"Justin wait," Michelle called after him. He turned and saw her walking towards him.

"What's up?" he asked when they were face to face.

"I want to come to your house tonight," she said which took him by surprise.

"You do?" he said. She nodded. They stared at each other not saying anything again. They started to lean in to kiss each other when the bell rang and everyone came out the lunch room.

"See ya tonight," he whispered in her ear before walking away. Her friends caught up with her and she acted like nothing happened.

After school they were in the parking lot and Michelle was thinking of a way to tell JC she had other plans but without everyone knowing what they were.

"So what's up? Movies tonight?" Lance asked everyone.

"Oh yeah Daredevil came out," Brianna said.

So they agreed for the movies. Before Michelle had a chance to say anything JC spoke.

"Actually we have plans of our own," JC said grabbing her by the waist.

"Oh okay. No problem," Joey said pushing JC's arm a little and smiling. She wanted to say something but nothing came to mind. It's like her mind went blank.

"Well I'll call you later okay girl," Heather said. Her friends were smiling widely at her. Everyone left and went seperate ways.

"What time should I come?" JC said to her.

"JC I-" she said. He put his finger on her lips to quiet her.

"I'll be there at 8:00 okay," he said and kissed her. He left to go to practice and she stood there about to cry.

She got in her car and thought about Justin. She wanted to be with him instead of JC. Then instead of crying she got upset. 'Damn JC,' she thought angrily to herself 'I'll just tell him another lie. Anything to be with Justin.' She drove off happy with her decision but unsure of the consequenses.

Lance thought to himself. He noticed how uncomfortable Michelle looked when JC mentioned their plans. He noticed that she didn't even agree. He sort of felt sorry for her. After all, she told him she wasn't even ready. He knew how much pressure the others put on her and it made him a little angry. Even the way JC tricked her into things all the time. Well he was going to fix JC. Michelle had feelings to and it was time JC realized that. Lance had a plan.
