Hour in the Shower

Background Info: This was my first poem I ever wrote. I wrote it in 7th grade for an assignment we had to do in Language Arts class.

I spend an hour in the shower
Staring off into the air
The water runs and runs and runs
But I don't really care.
First I take a few minutes
Just to wash my hair
Then will I do it again?
I certainly wouldn't dare!
Then I spend a couple of minutes
Washing my many parts
For that will help to give me
A true, refreshing start.
Once I finished that task
I didn't know what to do
I stepped out the shower
to see what's anew.
I greet my family
Their faces look sour
I know it's because
I spent an hour in the shower.

You're Gone

Background Info: When my Sunday School teacher moved away, this poem came to my mind the night after. I quickly wrote it down.

I had a dream
It gave me a fright
That wouldn't let me sleep
Sound last night.
My Sunday School teacher
I could not find
"She's gone said a voice in my mind
I let it go
I brushed it off
Yet not just a teacher
But a friend I had lost
One you could count on
She was always there
Never turning a soul away
Embracing them with care
Now you see why it was important
For her to be here
To be with me
To be near
This dream was too real
I had to wake up
And by that time
I had sweated a cup
I sat there that night
And thought for a time
I knew it was true
This dream of mine
She was gone
Then again she was not
For she would always have
A place in my heart
Life is different
Yet change is understood
For wherever she is
Is for the good
I won't forget her
I'll miss her dear
I'll even try not
To shed a tear
So Lord as I lay my head to rest
You've put my love to the test
Now I pray you hear me clear
Life's just not the same
Without Ms. Dominique here.

Trees By: Joyce Kilmer

Background Info: This has to be my all-time favorite poem. It's the one that inspired me to become a poet.

I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks to God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Heaven's Grocery Store By: An Unknown Author

I was walking along life's highway a long time ago.
One day I saw a sign that read "Heaven's Grocery Store."
As I got a little closer, the door came open wide.
And when I came to myself, I was standing inside.
I saw a host of angels that were standing everywhere,
One handed me a basket and said, "My child, shop with care."
Everything a Christian needed was in that grocery store,
And all you couldn't carry, you could come back the next day for more.
First I got some Patience...Love was in the same row.
Further down was Understanding, you need that where ere you go.
I got a box or two of Wisdom, a bag of Faith.
I just couldn't miss the Holy Ghost for it was all over the place.
I stopped to get some Strength and Courage to help me run this race;
By then, my basket was getting full, but I remembered I needed some Grace.
I didn't forget Salvation...That Salvation-that was free.
So...I tried to get enough of that to save both you and me.

Then I started up to the counter to pay my Grocery Bill.
For I thought I had everything to do my Master's Will.
As I went up the aisle, I saw Prayer, and I just had to put that in,
For I knew when I stopped outside, I would run into Sin.
Peace and Joy were plentiful; they were on the last shelf.
Song and Praises were hanging near so I just helped myself.
Then, I said to the Angel, "Now, how much do I owe?"
He smiled and replied..."Just take them where ere you go."
Again, I smiled at him and asked, "How much do I really owe?"
"My Child...JESUS PAID YOUR BILL A LONG TIME AGO!"

I Want To Help By: Madeline Owens

Background Info: This is a poem written by one of my good friends.

Open my eyes Lord,
Help me to see those in need,
I want to help them,
Help me to plant them a seed.
Open my heart Lord,
Help me to touch that man,
I want to help him,
Help me to understand.
Open my ears Lord,
Help me to hear her cries,
I want to help her,
Help me to dry her eyes.
Open my mouth Lord,
Help me to spread the truth,
I want to help them,
Help me so I can help you.
Open my mind Lord,
Help me to know what they need,
I want to help them,
Help me to share the gift of peace.
