Book One Family Heirloom: Accepting God's will

A Proverbs 31 wife wonders, does "submissive" mean giving up having anything of her own?

Thirty-seven-year-old Tamara Wolfe married her childhood sweetheart, Robert, right out of high school and proceeded to have a passel of children who fill her life to capacity. With the last of her children in preschool, Tamara decides to make a business out of her long-time love of creating designer gift baskets. She doesn't expect Robert to be against it from her first word.

Robert has always prided himself on giving Tamara the option of staying home to raise the children, just as his father did before him. Since birth, it's been drilled into him that a man who doesn't provide for his family is the worst kind of loser. What will happen if her business takes off? She won't have time to take care of the family. Worse, maybe she won't need him anymore. Although they'd agreed years before their family was complete, Robert considers that perhaps the cure for Tamara's restlessness is another baby.

Tamara prays for wisdom. All she wants is a small space of time for herself. Is she being selfish? Or is God leading her to continue being an outdated model of the Proverbs 31 wife--submissive, but never equal?

5 Hearts! "I was pleased to find out Ms. Wiesner is doing a series of this community of Peaceful, Wisconsin. There are many supporting cast members who were screaming to be acknowledged during Tamara and Robert's story. The secondary characters were very important to the telling of the Wolfe family saga. Even though Tamara and Robert were deeply in love and took care of their family, they were constantly involved in their community and church. These characters, both siblings, parents, neighbors, and townsfolk were such loving and believable people that it was as if I was living in that small town. Tamara and Robert Wolfe's story was told so beautifully. It was apparent at the beginning, even throughout their problems, that they each loved the other to distraction. This late-thirties couple was struggling not only financially but also emotionally. The expertise in revealing Ms. Wiesner's storyline created a spell-binding tale that I just could not help but love. She is truly a gifted author with a remarkably talented way of expressing her story. I cannot wait for her next installment in this series. I highly recommend you read this book." ~Brenda Talley for The Romance Studio http://theromancestudio.com//reviews/reviews/babybabywiesner.htm

Book Two Family Heirloom: Building love

Joined before God and family out of a sense of responsibility? Or love?

As a teenager, Justine Morris's escape from the pressures of caring for her dying father was stolen moments with Joshua Samuels. But their tender, desperate liaison found them facing teen pregnancy. Afraid of their Christian families' responses to the situation, they married quickly and built a life for their child.

But now that their daughter is ready to fly the nest, Justine can no longer ignore the truth: She and Joshua haven't had a real marriage for a long time. Maybe they never had one at all.

Joshua is only too aware that his busy, professional attorney wife is an independent woman who never really needed him. After nearly two decades of marriage, he's quit trying to get more than a piece of her at a time. Without their daughter holding them together, he knows the chasm between them will grow to epic proportions.

Their empty nest looming, they face the hard questions. Had they married in love...or out of a hasty sense of responsibility? Was it God's will for them to be together? And now, is it worth the effort to learn to become one as the Lord intends for a man and a woman...or better to simply let go?

Top Read of Excellence!> "Mmmmm, how to find the words to do this story justice? This book has a slow steady pace but it's deep--really deep. Well rounded, three-dimensional characters and not too many secondary's mean that you can really get into the nitty-gritty of the relationship. Ms Wiesner has a great writing style--very polished, tight and not too flowery so that you are absorbed and carried along on the current without being aware of the process. I felt really emotionally involved in the characters' relationship and loved them both and I loved the way they gradually worked towards a resolution. I also enjoyed the little development towards the end of the book. I have to admit that on the down side I did find myself wondering, could two people who have been married for eighteen years really be this obtuse about each other? Yes, I believe they could and Ms Wiesner makes the conflict one hundred percent believable. I loved the physical scenes. They happen but you are never taken into the detail, they are extremely tastefully done without losing any of the impact and without being explicit. I cried buckets reading this. If you want a moving, poignant and tender story about two people finding each other again then this is for you. Definitely recommended." ~WRDF http://blog.lyndacoker.net/2009/02/02/wrdf-review-of-shadow-boxing-by-karen-wiesner.aspx

Book Three Family Heirloom: Healing

She was one of his late wife’s best friends. He’s the man she’s loved from afar for as long as she can remember. Falling in love could take simply letting go of their fears...or a miracle.

Peter Samuels had lost his beloved wife Lydia to a brain tumor just one year earlier. His grief continues to overwhelm him, especially now that he’s the sole caretaker of their growing children and he’s alone once more in the world without a partner.

Kimberly Wolfe has always loved her boss Peter, but she’s loved him from afar. For years, she’d endured Lydia’s misguided attempts to fix her up with one Christian man after another. She’d envied Peter and Lydia’s love for one another, and, most recently, she’d consoled him in his grief over the loss of his wife and her close friend. But for as long as she can remember, her domineering father has used the Bible to justify his God-given place as head of the household, destroying Kimberly's mother and her own ability to trust men. A committed Christian, she struggles to forgive her father when he refuses to repent and see the wrong he's done.

An innocent kiss on New Year’s leads to a growing awareness between Peter and Kimberly. Peter wonders if there can be love again after such devastation. Kimberly wrestles with her fears borne of the past. Can Peter ever see her as more than an employee and a shoulder to lean on? Can he accept her as a Christian woman who’s nowhere near content to live out her life without the love of a man and a family of her own?

Top Read of Excellence! "What a great story this is--truly deserving of a gold medal. Great, well-developed characters; complex, flawed in places, yet beautiful. The author weaves the story tightly, leading the reader on an emotional journey with poignant highs and lows that made me weep. The Christian message is a thread that flows through the novel, enhancing the plot without being too sickly sweet. I loved the constancy of Kim and the strength and understanding of Peter and, although I don't often read inspirational romances, the depth of the characters and the excellence of the plotting and writing kept me glued to the pages until I'd finished it. I read this through without a break and would recommend as a great read even if you don't normally go for inspirational." ~WRDF Review http://blog.lyndacoker.net/2009/10/23/wrdf-review-of-foolish-games-by-karen-wiesner.aspx

Book Four Family Heirloom: Forgiving

A young Christian woman struggles with seeking pardon from those she's hurt when she can't seem to get past her own inability to forgive those who have wronged her.

Three years ago, Samantha Samuels had suffered under the violent hands of Ryder Feldmann, a juvenile delinquent her pastor father had been counseling. Now she's completed her psychiatry training and plans to help other victims of violent crimes at the rape counseling clinic in her hometown of Peaceful, Wisconsin. Unexpectedly, she finds herself sharing an office building and Sunday services at her new church with the older brother, a divorce counselor, of her attacker...the very man she'd been in love with before her rape.

In the time since Kyle Feldmann's brother was jailed for his crime against Samantha, he's lived with the torment of all he's lost because of his sibling. Before the tragedy that stole Samantha from him and destroyed his dreams, Kyle had begged her to risk her father's disappointment and elope with him. Seeing Samantha again after so many years, being near her, only puts him right back where he was before the rape. Kyle wants to heal Samantha, love her, and fulfill the dreams he grieved the loss of—by marrying her. But how can they be together forever when she's still so broken?

All her life, Samantha had wanted her father's approval, but his selfish part in putting her in a dangerous situation has led her to a painful place of desperately needing to forgive him and her attacker...and being unable to in all the time since the traumatic event that ripped her life in two. As she gives her heart to Kyle once more, her already fractured relationship with the Lord is tested. In the crossfire of faith, she wonders if glass angels shatter beyond recognition when they take a leap of faith, or if they can heal and become stronger than ever before.

5 Hearts! “Ms. Karen Wiesner has, once again, upheld my high opinion of her writing skills. She has outdone herself with this poignant story. The many involved stories within the main book just kept me mesmerized. The characters were fabulously written. They were not only realistic, but also believable as everyday people that faced struggles and triumphs and steadily worked through them. This happily-ever-after was hard-fought and, at times, it was impossible to see a good end. The sensuality was perfectly (in my opinion) handled. It was not ignored, but it was treated as people, even Christians, truly have to face. While some of this would be ignored in other inspirational romances, it was wonderfully presented as facts really faced in today's world. It was sensitively handled so that there would be no offense from anyone. I was captivated by the entire storyline and almost read it straight through—it's not a short book. I high recommend this book and commend Ms. Wiesner for her work. It is a book that can be helpful to read as well as entertaining. I laughed, I cried, and I can honestly say I saw the Word of God spread throughout this book. Great job, Ms. Wiesner!” ~Brenda Talley http://theromancestudio.com/reviews/reviews/glassangelswiesner.htm

Book Five Family Heirloom: Learning trust

In order to reconcile her past, she must face the terrible truth she buried long ago...and, in doing so, she gambles with her heart and the salvation of her own soul.

Ashley Savage grew up in a troubled home with a competitive, pampered sister and an abusive, ridiculing mother who played at being a Christian when she needed to...and led Ashley to more addictions than one child could handle. As an adult, Ashley tells herself she's put the extreme fears of the past behind her, but she spends most of her time repairing the crumbling wall holding back the horrors she's not willing to face ever again. She's become a woman against the world.

The one man who has the annoying habit of getting through her defenses is Jay Samuels, a military chaplain and soon-to-be pastor. Much as Ashley wants to leave him behind like she believes she has the rest of her past, Jay is ambitious to a fault where she's concerned. He hears only what he wants to hear—and he doesn't want to hear that she doesn't love him as much as he loves her.

But even Jay doesn't realize the extent of all she's buried deep inside her own subconscious...and what keeps her from giving herself willingly to the God she knows is drawing her inexorably to Himself, to the one place she can't run, where she can no longer hide...

5 Stars! “This is the fifth story within the Family Heirloom Series. Once again Karen Wiesner is tackling a hard topic that most authors would avoid like the plague. When one, such as Ashley, has been dealt several, various abuses and yet, somehow, still manages to straighten out her life and succeed, then the LAST thing she is eager to do is to put her trust in another human being. When that same person has begged all her life for God to help her, save her, and then for Him to never heed her distress, then the LAST thing she is willing to turn to is her faith in God. Wiesner not only goes into the needs for Ashley to deal with her past, her issues with trust and control, and of finding her way back to God. As I read Ashley's story, I found myself looking at the young kids and teens around me in a different light. Perhaps those wild teens drinking on the street corner are seeking escape from something worse at home. If you have not read the previous titles of the Family Heirlooms Series, you will still fully enjoy this story. Each title is a stand-alone tale. However, if you have read them, I am happy to inform you that Samantha Samuels and Kyle Feldmann, from GLASS ANGELS, Book 4 are wed in this episode. And if you are familiar with Wiesner's Kaleidoscope Series, you may notice a small reference to the Kaleidoscope building, too. Noticing that made the setting more believable to me, especially since the reference was made "in passing" instead of being used as a plug for another series. If you are looking for a Christian Romance that will touch your heart, while also opening your eyes to a new way of viewing the world around you, then this author is for you! Not just this story, but ALL of Karen Wiesner's stories are this way. As for this individual story, you will be treated to a realistic, well written tale that will capture your attention almost immediately, hold onto it until the very ending, and will long linger in your mind. I am unable to explain how much I loved Ashley's story. In a word: "Indescribable!"” ~Huntress Reviews http://www.huntressreviews.com

Book Six Family Heirloom: Persevering in adversity

5 hearts and winner of the 5 heart sweetheart Award from The Romance Studio

Dr. Marcus Samuels is a medical missionary in Japan, and his life has been God’s work despite a severe anxiety disorder associated with being far from home. After twelve years of watching his happily married siblings and their children, he can no longer deny the chronic ache inside him and knows he should start his own family life back in the States—though he has serious doubts about his wife-hunting abilities at the age of forty. Spurred into motion by his mother’s sudden illness, he’s caught off-guard when he realizes just how much he’ll miss Keiko Oichi and her brother Haruki, fellow pediatricians at the Children’s Christian Mission Hospital. The two have not only been his lifeline while in a foreign, distant place, but have also become family to him.

Keiko and Haruki grew up in the United States as foreign exchange students. It was through their host family that she and her older sibling became Christians. Her conversion to Christ, as well as getting to know Marcus, have radically altered her emotionally-detached acceptance of her traditional Japanese future. When Marcus says he’s leaving Japan for good, she feels lost at the prospect of living without her closest friend. Only with Marcus can she be the woman she truly is inside—if she can shed the cocoon of lifelong familial tradition and impossible expectations and be free.

Knowing Keiko has been betrothed since she was a child, Marcus had trained himself not to see her as a potential mate. But learning of her unhappiness and fear of being unequally yoked to an immoral man she can never love opens his eyes to possibilities he hasn’t allowed himself to consider. Who better to fall in love with than your very best friend? When Keiko’s parents learn of her conversion and feelings for a Christian man, the couple faces a crossroads in love and faith that will change both of their lives irrevocably.

5 Hearts and Sweetheart Award Winner! “Once again, Karen Wiesner has surprised me and completed this beautiful series with a stunning conclusion. As I read, I realized that, great author that she is, she CAN (and does) throw kinks into the storyline that are great surprises. I certainly didn’t see the devastation they would have to face soon after returning to the US. These characters were dynamic, in-depth people who had personal qualities we all look for in friends and family. She developed this book in such a way it was almost impossible to put the book down. The secondary characters were a myriad of family members on both sides and in two different places—America and Japan. The writing was addictive and kept me glued to my book. The sensuality of the content was sweet and intense. It went a little into the emotionally charged relationship. However, it didn’t go over the line. Any age group can, and should, read this marvelous book. I highly recommend that you run—not walk—to get this book and read it quickly. You will be thrilled you did. This is another reason Karen Wiesner is on my “must read” list. Another great job, Ms. Wiesner!” ~The Romance Studio http://reviews.theromancestudio.info/2013/09/17/273/
