Upcoming Projects

Below, you'll find information about some of the as-yet unsold or unpublished projects I’m brainstorming on.

A new trilogy spinoff of Denim Blues Mysteries and Red Velvet Mysteries: Black Leather Mysteries, which will include: NAUGHTY AND NICE {Den & Sylvia, private investigators}, ROCK AND ROLL {Orlando & Keeya, police procedural}, and MOTORCYCLES AND MAYHEM {Ty & Erin, amateur sleuth}, 2019 and beyond releases. I expect to continue indefinitely with as many spin-offs of these as I can think up and I’m inspired to write, using the (Color) (Fabric) theme.

New Woodcutter’s Grim Series novel or new miniseries for 2019 release. I plan to indefinitely come up with novels, novellas, and/or miniseries within the overall series.

Falcon's Bend Series: I don’t know whether we’ll be writing another novel past Book 6 (already contracted) or the third novella collection (again, already contracted). I’m not ruling it out. Additionally, Chris and I always talked about doing more with FBI agent Robert Lock—possibly a spinoff trilogy/series based on the premise of FALCON’S BEND CASE FILES, Volume III: Assassin.

HOME sequel for 2019 or later release. I’ve considering writing a follow-up with Della and Cade as the main characters again.

Follow-up to Taming April, Book 4 of the Cowboy Fever Series. While this novella was complete as it was, I still felt like I could explore more with this fascinating couple, Shawn and April, who got married in The Only One, Book 5 of the series. In May 2013, a story idea came to me for them out of the clear blue sky. This book will be titled A WING AND A PRAYER. It'll end up being the second Cowboy Fever Series novel, Book 7 with April and Shawn as main characters. I already designed an adorable cover for it. You can see it here. I anticipate it’ll be released in July 2018. I don’t believe this series will go past this novel.

Bloodmoon Cove Spirits Series novel(s) or maybe another collection of novellas for 2019 and beyond release. I intend to indefinitely come up with novels or novellas in this series.

THE RUINS. This is a futuristic romance I’ve had kicking around in my brain for long years. In May 2013, I had some ideas about setting it in the same futuristic “world” as my novella, The Amethyst Star, with the same races inhabiting the earth but new devastation wreaking havoc. It’ll take place probably 10 to 20 years after the events in the novella and I expect it’ll be a novel. Someday it might rise to the surface enough for me to write a back cover blurb for it, and from there I can progress it to the production stage. Estimated 2019 or later release.

Untitled inspirational romance single title and/or series. I have nothing specific in mind right now, but I would like to write another single title inspirational romance or a series of them with the first book or books coming out in 2019.

116) 6/1/14-6/2/14: Mockingjay, Book 3 of The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins {ya fantasy} (Note: I hated this book as passionately as I loved the first two. The author obviously stopped caring a whit about her characters and didn’t care how it ended one way or another. She just wanted it over. I’ve never been more disappointed in my life in how a series ended (“and good riddance” is the only response I can imagine the author imparting after this poorly done cap to the trilogy). I’d heard there were rumors of a fourth installment, but the mere idea is laughable. There’s nothing to work with for that. The very best thing that could be done--impossible now since it should have been considered before the book was ever published--is to scrap everything but the satisfying epilogue in Book 3 and start all over. Only this time, the author needs to love her characters enough to keep rooting and caring for them. Only that could save what she started so brilliantly in the first two books.

117) 6/2/14-6/8/14: Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton {tech thriller} (Note: A favorite of mine I’ve read many times and will probably read again many more. That’s the case for almost all of Crichton’s books.)

121) 7/6/14-7/7/14: Virus 13 by Joshua Pan Alana Parry {medical tech thriller} (Note: Um…what? What is this? If it was supposed to be amusing or something, I just didn’t get it.)

93) 3/6/13-3/9/13: Sooner or Later by Bruce and Carole Hart {ya romance} (Note: The first two in eventually a quartet of books about Jessie and Michael were some of my favorites as a teenager and were instrumental in my writing. While from this great distance now, I have to say they took a huge risk writing the book like this—1st person POV and present tense and also writing so choppy and almost like a screenplay, which of course it was, something about this is so fresh. I believe the character is 13 years old. It’s so hard for adults to capture that inability to make something so small and seemingly insignificant to someone who has much more experience and make it utterly believable. They did that with this character. Jessie is so real as a 13-year-old and later a little older. I still love it. My desire for writing was sparked by the first two books in Jessie and Michael’s saga. Ironically, back then I loved the idea of 1st person POV and present tense, though even then I realized, using a writing style like this could be horrible or brilliant. I’ve been very careful about not using it all this time myself because it takes a very unique book and character to pull this off. I think I found it with my Clumsy Girl’s Guides [Friendship Heirlooms Series].

13) 2/14/12-2/16/12: Nonprofit Kit for Dummies by Stan Hutton and Frances Phillips {reference} (Note: Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to do the necessary research while outlining DESTINY and so I’m doing it now. Grimace. I rarely enjoy reading nonfiction books.)

14) 2/15/12-3/14/12: Acts (in The Message Bible)

15) 2/16/12: The Frog Prince by the Brothers Grimm {fairy tale/fable} (Note: I’m always looking for inspiration for my Woodcutter’s Grim Series from fairy tales, mythology, etc.so I read a lot of these and collect the compilations.)

41) 2/26/12-3/1/12: The Secret of Chimneys by Agatha Christie {cozy mystery} (Note: I’ve read all but about 10 books by this author, and I guess it had to happen. I didn’t like this one at all. The “political intrigue” that bogged down the first couple chapters ruined the rest of the book for me.)

42) 3/1/12-3/3/12: Dear John by Nicolas Sparks {mainstream fiction} (Note: My sister recommended this one to me, with reservations. While the romance was as bad and frustrating as I expected, I enjoyed the story of the hero and his dad.)

43-46) 3/3/12: The Wednesday Witch, What the Witch Left, and Witch’s Brook by Ruth Chew {childrens/YA fantasy} (Note: These are old childhood favorites of mind that are hard to come by. I managed to find them in a used bookstore.)

47) 3/4/12-3/6/12: “The Adventure of the Six Napoleons” from The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle {mystery novella} (Note: My third favorite detective after Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. I’ve been reading through his collected works a second time for the past year or so, reading a few short stories here and there when I’m in the mood.)

48) 3/6/12: “The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez” from The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle {mystery novella}

49) 3/6/12: “The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter” from The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle {mystery novella}

50) 3/6/12: “The Adventure of the Abbey Grange” from The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle {mystery novella}

51) 3/6/12: “The Adventure of the Second Stain” from The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle {mystery novella}

52-87) 3/7/12-3/11/12: Vampires, Win, and Roses: Chilling Tales of Immortal Pleasure edited by John Richard Stephens {vampire compilation} (Note: This collection contains 35 entries, an eclectic mix—song lyrics, snippets of plays, excerpts, unfinished books, essays, and, of course, short stories. Extremely enjoyable for anyone who loves paranormal. I particularly enjoyed the Anne Rice short (so atmospheric) and the H.G. Wells story that I believe may have been a precursor to one of my favorite books/movies of all time, Invasion of the Body Snatchers.)

88) 3/11/12-3/14/12: The Man in the Picture by Susan Hill {ghost story} (Note: Loved the last one I read of hers, so I thought I’d try another one. Loved it.)

89) 3/14/12-3/15/12: The Vow by Dana Wilkerson {true romance} (Note: I was intrigued by the trailers for the movie--married a couple months, then the car accident that causes the heroine to forget the hero, but the book execution isn't terribly appealing. Didn’t enjoy this.)

90) 3/15/12-3/29/12: Romans (in The Message Bible)

91) 3/15/12-3/18/12: Follow Me by Jan David Hettinga {Christian living/nonfiction} (Note: Necessary reading for Christians of all religions and stages of their walk with the Lord.)

92) 3/19/12-3/24/12: Cherry Hill’s Horsekeeping Almanac {reference} (Note: Necessary research for DRIFTER’S HEART.)

93) 3/24/12-3/26/12: Ranch Horsemanship by Curt Pate {reference} (Note: Necessary research for DRIFTER’S HEART.)

94) 3/26/12-3/30/12: Wait Till Helen Comes by Mary Downing Hahn {a ghost story} (Note: I’m really into ghost stories lately. This was YA and not scary enough for me, but I suppose I would have loved it as a kid.)

95) 3/29/12-4/15/12: 1 Corinthians (in The Message Bible)

96) 3/30/12-4/2/12: Hell House by Richard Matheson {ghost horror} (Note: His book I Am Legend is one of my favorite books, so I thought I’d try another he’s written, especially this one is going along with my continued craving for really good, horrifying ghost stories. Unfortunately, this book was sexually gratuitous for absolutely no good reason that I could see, and that aspect certainly didn’t make it scary, though I suspect it was intended to. Didn’t enjoy this book at all. Very disappointing since I’d heard it touted as the ultimate scary ghost story.)

97) 4/2/12-4/3/12: The Secret of Shadow Ranch, Nancy Drew Mysteries #5 by Carolyn Keene {ya mystery} (Note: I just played the computer game for the third time and thought I’d read the book.)

98) 4/3/12-4/8/12: The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare {gothic romantic suspense} (Note: I love gothic romance, especially the older stuff, and I honestly don’t know what I was expecting, but what I got wasn’t at all ideal. Well-written, yes. Not really my cup of tea though.)

99) 4/8/12-4/11/12: Chamber of Horrors by Bruce Coville {ya horror} (Note: Something I think I read as a teenager.)

100) 4/11/12-4/15/12: The Help by Kathryn Stockett {early 1960s novel} (Note: Had two people recommend this book. For a first novel, not bad and well-written with solid voices, but I can’t imagine what the author was thinking in using first person POV for all of the main characters. Not just a little confusing! Plus, I kept wondering throughout reading the book what the author’s point was in connecting all these seemingly random lives. I didn’t actually come to a definitive conclusion about that by the time I finished.)

101) 4/16/12-4/25/12: 2 Corinthians (in The Message Bible)

102) 4/16/12-4/20/12: Partners in Crime by Agatha Christie {A Tommy & Tuppence Beresford Mystery} (Note: Loved everything about this. A bunch of mini-mysteries with an overarching main mystery. I loved the back-and-forth between this couple.)

103-133) 4/21/12-4/26/12: The Screaming Skull and Other Classic Horror Stories compiled by Michael Kelahan {horror} (Note: There are 30 stories in this compilation from authors like Lovecraft, Poe and Hawthorne.)

134) 4/26/12-4/30/12: Galatians (in The Message Bible)

135) 4/26/12-4/29/12: Null and Void, Book 1 of the Shadowed Hearts Series by Jane Toombs {gothic romance} (Note: Jane is a close friend of mine, but long before I ever met her, I was reading her gothic paranormal horror romances. Love, love, love them!)

136) 4/29/12-4/30/12: Ghost Hotel by Larry Weinberg {YA ghost story}

137) 4/30/12-5/1/12: Nurse at the Castle by Joanne Holden {gothic romance}

139) 5/2/12-5/7/12: Parker Pyne Investigates by Agatha Christie{cozy mystery collection} (Note: Loved this.)

140) 5/7/12-5/9/12: Philippians (in The Message Bible)

141-170) 5/8/12-5/17/12: The Body Snatcher and Other Classic Ghost Stories compiled by Michael Kelahan {ghost stories} (Note: Tthere are 29 stories in this compilation from authors like Lovecraft, Dickens, Doyle, Stoker, Wharton and Kipling.)

171) 5/10/12-5/12/12: Colossians (in The Message Bible)

172) 5/13/12-5/16/12: 1 Thessalonians (in The Message Bible)

173) 5/17/12-5/16/12: 2 Thessalonians (in The Message Bible)

174) 5/17/12-5/19/12: The Ruins by Scott Smith {horror} (Note: This is one of my favorite horror novels of all time. I’ve read it four times now and always read it within a day or two because it’s written without actual chapters, just breaks, and I literally can’t put it down. My only complaint is the end. I believe in having heroes triumph in the end. This is the exact opposite. The reader leaves horrified, dejected, and disillusioned that man can overcome evil. Yet I have to read it at least once a year.)

175) 5/20/12-5/25/12: 1 Timothy (in The Message Bible)

176) 5/20/12-5/21/12: Burgher and the Woebegone by Kim Chatel {ya choose your own adventure} (Note: Guardian Angel Books will be publishing Books 1 and 2 in my Making Good Choices Series in choose your own adventure formats later in the year, so I wanted to see how they laid it out in this other book of that type published by them.)

177-178) 5/21/12-5/22/12: Mischievous Music Duet by Jane Toombs {two regency romance novellas}

179) 5/23/12-5/24/12: The Doll in the Garden by Mary Downing Hahn {young adult ghost story}

196) 6/13/12: No Place like Motorhome by Lisa Mills {inspirational contemporary romance } (Note: A final read-through for my critique partner. As always, excellent.)

226) 7/6/12-7/12/12: The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell {YA} (Note: I read this story countless times when I was younger and I still adore it.)

227) 7/12/12-7/15/12: Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures by John Malam & Steve Parker {YA reference} (Note: I have a juvenile love of dinosaurs, though I consider 99.9% of what’s written about them to be pure fiction. I love dinosaurs in fiction. Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park and The Lost World are two of my favorite books of all time. So plausible with dynamic characters.)

228) 7/16/12: Sea Creature by Victor Methos (horror) (Note: I’m only a few scenes in and not enjoying this. Way too many superficial characters thrust into action sequences {including the creature in POV} for me to care about any of them.)

229) 7/16/12: The Extinct by Victor Methos (horror) (Note: Ditto previous.)

230) 7/17/12-7/22/12: Terminal Freeze by Lincoln Child (horror) (Note: I'd forgotten I already read this book when I purchased this hardcover. After I read the first scene, I realized it. Just like last time, I was disappointed that the creature wasn a mammoth, but it was a good book despite that.)

231) 7/18/12-8/5/12: Genesis (in The Message Bible)

232) 7/23/12-7/27/12: Telepath: The Mind's Eye by Caleb Jablonicky (supernatural novella) (Note: My nephew's unpublished work. Well done.)

233) 7/27/12-7/29/12: Witch and Wizard by James Patterson (YA fantasy) (Note: Voice used tries too hard to be on the side of teenagers and to make them sound superior. Not at all what I’d hoped for in this book.)

234) 7/29/12-8/7/12: Death Benefit by Robin Cook (medical thriller) (Note: I’ve read and loved all his books {despite the flat, rigid characters}.)

235) 8/6/12-8/21/12: Exodus (in The Message Bible)

236) 8/7/12-8/20/12: A Clash of Kings, Book 2 of A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin {fantasy}

237) 8/13/12-8/18/12: FIRST-DEGREE FUDGE, Book 1 of A Door County Fudge Shop Mystery Series by Christine DeSmet {cozy mystery} (Note: A final read-through for my long-time friend and writer extraordinaire.)

238) 8/20/12-8/24/12: BENEATH THE SHADOWS by Sara Foster {gothic suspense} (Note: I was enthralled with this atmospheric book from the very first sentence and couldn’t put it down until the end. However, there’s a mistake in this book that I couldn’t overlook. The author made a huge character leap. The heroine spent the whole book being concerned about her little girl, then near the end of the book, when she gets caught in a winter storm, she lets the guy who's babysitting her daughter come to rescue her without once asking what he plans to do with her daughter while he comes to get her. I mean, obviously she wouldn't let him bring the daughter out into a horrendous snow storm, so why didn't she make sure of what he did plan to do with her little girl? The answer is, of course, plot convenience. Because the author needed the heroine not to ask, so the catalyst to the resolution of the story could come out the way she wanted it to. Sloppy of the author (though this is her first book) and the editor who let her get away with it! But I still loved the book all the way through and it's totally worth reading.)

239) 8/22/12-8/23/12: Deuteronomy (in The Message Bible) (Note: I admit it! Though I’ve read this book before, I couldn’t get past the second chapter this time. Moving on.)

240) 8/24/12-8/25/12: Ruth (in The Message Bible)

241) 8/24/12-8/25/12: THE DEAD PATH by Stephen M. Irwin {horror} (Note: This book had a premise that I love, though it’s been done many times. Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to love it, I couldn’t get into it. The writing style also put me off.)

242-250) 8/25/12-8/25/12: GREAT GHOST STORIES compiled by John Grafton {supernatural} (Note: There are ten stories in this collection with Dickens, etc., but I’ve recently read two of them so I’m skipping those.)

251) 8/26/12-9/15/12: 1 Samuel (in The Message Bible)

252) 8/29/12-9/3/12: HAUNTED HOUSES by Daniel Diehl and Mark P. Donnelly (Note: Non-specific research for my Bloodmoon Cove Spirits Series.)

266) 9/17/12-9/22/12: Charlotte Markham and the House of Darkling by Michael Boccacino {paranormal gothic} (Note: I wanted to love this book because it is well-written and interesting, but by the middle of the book I couldn’t take the lethargic pace and the lack of anything happening at all to keep me turning the pages.)

267) 9/22/12-9/26/12: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien {fantasy} (Note: I’ve read this almost a half dozen times. It’s one of my favorites. Can’t wait for the movie so had to get a read in before.)

268) 9/27/12-9/29/12: Dusted to Death by Barbara Colley {cozy mystery} (Note: Always love a good Charlotte LaRue mystery.)

269) 9/27/12-9/30/12: The Magical World of The Lord of the Rings by David Colbert {reference}

270) 9/29/12-10/19/12: Bears of the Black Staff (Legends of Shannara, Book 1) by Terry Brooks {fantasy} (Note: This was an audio book—I’ve read the novel 2 times previously.)

271-326) 9/30/12-10/5/12: Grimms’ Fairy Tales by The Brothers Grimm {fairytales} (Note: There are 55 stories in this collection.)

334) 11/3/12-?: Luke (in The Message Bible)

335) 11/3/12-11/4/12: Miss Peregrin’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs {Fantasy} (Note: The name says it all. Just peculiar. The photographs are nothing short of terrifying. I assumed the book would be terrifying but it wasn’t at all.)

336) 11/4/12-11/8/12: Quotable Quotes by Readers Digest (Note: Research for my next two Clumsy Girl’s Guides [Friendship Heirlooms Series].)
