HALLOWEEN TREASURES |
Five Jewels of the Quill authors offer stories that will charm, bewitch and scare you silly.
A collection for readers to enjoy during the spooky season...or any day of the year!
Mistress of the Shadow Hounds {paranormal romance} by Margaret L. Carter (Dame Onyx): A sinister artifact handed down in her family forces a young woman into conflict with creatures from an alien dimension that threaten not only her life but the safety of the entire world.
Cuddly {horror} by Dee Lloyd (Dame Aquamarine): Sam Farber heads for a neighborhood bar after a particularly grueling shift in the emergency room. This Hallowe'en had brought out all the crazies. He'd spent hours dealing with the bloody aftermath of a gun battle between two teenaged gangs. All he wants is an hour or two of warmth and companionship. He gets more than he's looking for.
The Scarecrow and Ms. Moon {paranormal romance} by Barbara Raffin (Dame Jade): Never make a witch mad. Jackson Wolfe did and he's now a scarecrow in her garden. Jessie Moon doesn't like liars and, in a fit of anger, turned the man she loves into a scarecrow. Now, four months later, she's exhausted every spell to restore him, been put on probation by her coven, and is still angry at Jackson for lying to her.
On All Hallows Eve, the coven assembles at Jessie's house to restore Jackson to his living, human form at the stroke of midnight. What Jessie doesn't realize is that this is a test for her--a test that will determine whether or not she will be allowed to remain in the coven. Since impulsive anger is this novice witch's problem, Jessie is given the twenty-four hours of Halloween in which to learn to control her anger and love Jackson enough to let him go or to lose her place in the coven. As if that wasn't enough, if she fails, not only will she be cast out of the coven, but Jackson will be turned back into a scarecrow...forever.
The Charmer (North of Nonesuch Series, Book 9)
{romantic horror} by Jane Toombs
(Dame Turquoise): Who is the charmer and who the charmed? A very difficult distinction to make. If Will Pasanen fails to solve the problem, more than his love for Lily Fowler is doomed...
Paper Tiger (Kaleidoscope Series, Book 5) {contemporary romantic suspense}
by
Karen Wiesner (Dame Amethyst): Kaleidoscope Office Building provides employment to nine hot, young
singles--all about to make a love connection. Working 9 to 5 has never been
so complicated...or so much fun!
Billy LaPointe's wife died only a couple years after they married, leaving him with a son to raise on his own. Nine years later, he's found love again with Veronica Spencer and his teenage son Damian is just as smitten with her. But after years of hearing Roni hedge on his marriage proposals, Billy is desperate. Determined to make her his forever, he offers her an ultimatum that he soon regrets. What he doesn't know is that Roni has a secret past she doesn't want to look back and confront--a past that may have come back to haunt her. Can she risk losing Billy and Damian because of what could be a true threat...or merely a paper tiger?
“The Scarecrow & Ms. Moon by Barbara Raffin (Dame Jade): FOUR STARS! I found this story and plot to be amazing. Cuddly by Dee Lloyd (Dame Aquamarine): FOUR STARS! Throughout it all, I felt an underlining tension. Well done. Paper Tiger (Kaleidoscope, #5) by Karen Wiesner (Dame Amethyst): FIVE STARS! This one had shivers running up and down my spine. I could not seem to read fast enough. I simply HAD to know what was going to happen next. As with the other stories within the Kaleidoscope Series, I found this one to be well written, with engaging characters, and thoroughly enjoyable. The Charmer (North of Nonesuch, #9) by Jane Toombs (Dame Turquoise): FOUR STARS! I have always enjoyed the stories by this author. Back when Gothics were the norm, Jane Toombs was my favorite author in the genre. Now she has brought her talents into the Paranormal Romance genre. And I am SO glad she has. The plot is intense and I could not read fast enough to suit myself. Terrific! Mistress of the Shadow Hounds by Margaret L. Carter (Dame Onyx): FIVE STARS! With well developed characters and lots of suspense, this steamy romance is sure to please. I hope to see more adventures with these characters, or others of their kind, in the near future. Excellent!” ~Detra Fitch for Huntress Reviews http://www.huntressreviews.com/especial.htm

Who knows what lurks behind a pretty face or who has turned on the charm? With steamy romance and paranormal tales, these stories are sure to keep you turning the pages. In each story, the characters are quite engaging as they serve up spine-tingling suspense.” ~Readers Favorite http://readersfavorite.com/cat-71.htm?review=3207
4 Siren Stones! "Whether you prefer a little more banter in your romance (The Scarecrow and Ms Moon), or something more 'straightforward', the eclectic mix of author voices makes this anthology a good read. Some 'traditional' horror tales have been modernised and updated with a refreshing energy (The Charmer), while others warn the reader to Be Careful What They Wish For…. Lest they actually get it. None of the tales were overly graphic in either the horror department or bedroom antics... and I enjoyed the balance that all the authors struck between these two aspects. This is more a read for those who like their romance with a Small Side-Order of Scare, rather than all out blood, guts and no-hope-of-ever-sleeping-again. ...on the whole each story flowed easily, and they all fit well together... 4 Stars! “From a beloved boyfriend who’s turned into a scarecrow to a paranormal romance that includes artifacts and aliens, there’s a little something here for everyone who enjoys the “things that go bump in the night” in this Jewels of the Quill Halloween anthology. Raffin’s The Scarecrow and Ms. Moon is filled with humor and romance.” ~Amy Lignor for RT Book Reviews http://www.rtbookreviews.com
4 Stars Overall! “The Scarecrow and Ms. Moon by Barbara Raffin: A very sweet story that kept me guessing until the end. I honestly didn’t see that coming. Cuddly by Dee Lloyd: This very short story packs a lot of wallop in a brief time. Sam’s wishes seem to be coming true before his eyes. But by the time we realize what is really happening, it may be too late. This story reminded me of many of The Twilight Zone episodes I watched. Paper Tiger (Kaleidoscope Series, Book 5) by Karen Wiesner: I’d say this story has enough suspense in it to keep you up at night. It surely haunted my dreams. If you love a story that will scare your socks off, this one is for you. I had to keep putting it down because it was too intense and too close to a horror story for my personal tastes. Karen Wiesner is a master storywriter and storyteller, even if it was too intense for me. I don’t like to have my socks scared off. I cannot deny Karen’s masterful ability to spin a story and reel the reader into that story. It was very realistic and totally believable. If you love a scary thrill, this story is perfect for you. The Charmer (North of Nonesuch Series, Book 9) by Jane Toombs: While this story stands alone—I’ve never read any of the stories in the series and I was never lost—I’d like the opportunity to read more of Jane Toombs’ writing. She writes a fascinating story and kept me guessing and jumping to conclusions throughout the story. I’d like to read more about the other members of Will’s family and see how things played out for them. We got some tantalizing snippets of their pasts and I would like to learn more. Mistress of the Shadow Hounds by Margaret L. Carter: An incredibly fast read. It kept me on my toes from the first page to the last. Margaret Carter gives us an incredible otherworld story that includes mystery and romance. This was a great way to end this anthology.” ~Robyn Roberts for Once Upon a Time Romance Reviews http://www.onceuponaromance.net/HalloweenTreasures.htm
"HALLOWEEN TREASURES, A Jewels of the Quill Halloween Anthology is a collection of stories that center around the spookiest time of the year, Halloween. My favorites in this collection were The Scarecrow and Ms. Moon (Barbara Raffin) and Cuddly (Dee Lloyd). The characters were interesting and the plots were unique. I found Jessie (in Raffin's story) easy to identify with. I think most people can relate to her feelings of anger when she believes she has been betrayed. The situations and dialogue are humorous, and the characters are engaging. The plot is interesting and I would like to read more about the characters. Cuddly was good. I wanted more... The other stories [featured] characters [that] are interesting and the dialogue good... As with any anthology, there are a variety of stories and styles. If you like short paranormal romance then this may be a fit for you." ~Brit for Bitten by Books http://www.bittenbybooks.com
