Microsoft FrontPage 2002 – FrontPage lets you create fairly sophisticated web sites for your home or office needs.  It allows you to manage your websites and keep track of all the users that view your website.  FrontPage 2002 does not stand out over other editors other than its new photo gallery.  This feature lets you add rich quality photos to your webpage with ease.

FrontPage 2002 does allow PowerPoint like drawing tools available to their users, but does not seem like something a professional would use for their websites.  Probably the best feature that FrontPage 2002 has added to their program is the bCentral account.  With this, you can create catalogs, process credit card orders and even track orders right online.  This can be very handy for those who sell a lot of merchandise online.  Actual programming is still available, but can be done without.

The cost of this (since it comes with office XP) can run anywhere between $350 dollars to $479, depending on where and who you buy it from.  I have used this once or twice, but do not like it as much because of the frequent freezes and pauses that I have to go through.  Even with a fast computer, it still runs slower than normal.

Homesite 5.0 – This editor is directed more towards people who prefer to work in raw code or need to do more programming than HTML.  It does more than just HTML.  It can work in areas such as XHTML and VTML.  It also has what’s called a double byte, which allows it to use Unicode and other international character sets.  Another pro to this editor is the file-handling interface.  This allows multiple files to be edited and managed all at once.

It also added the auto save feature which will save your webpage every five minutes automatically.  The auto back up is another great tool that Homesite has added to this version.  This was created so that user can go back to a previous version of their webpage after an unwanted save or change.  This I think is a great feature.  This program is said to be very stable.  It has a 99.9% stability mark.  That is incredibly high.  It rarely will freeze or crash.

It also comes with a built in FTP manager to automatically help you send your files to your web server.  This feature saves you time and money.  This program runs from about $100 dollars if you find a good deal.  The upgrade runs for about $30 bucks.  I think it is worth every penny.

Adobe GoLive 6.0 – Adobe GoLive is a great editor if you know how to use it.  It can be very tricky and complex, but if you figure it out, its one of the most powerful editors out there today.  Its known for its WYSIWYG interface.

This editor is built for medium to large corporations who are working on their websites.  This would not be used by the average person.  Its application is very familiar with all of Adobe’s programs.  If you have used Adobe Photo Shop before, you will understand this program as well.  It also can create pages in WML, WAP and I-mode for wireless devices, such as web-enabled phones.

The WorkGroup Server allows you to manage your files on the server and be available to whom ever you want it to be.  It also notifies you of broken links, changes made to the page and updates that are available.  It also comes with many templates, if the user does not have time to create their own.  The price of this program costs about $490 dollars.  The cost covers unlimited support from the company through their website.  You can receive help from the tech. support any time you need it.  Once the phone support expires, it will cost depending on the problem you have.   Again, this editor is not for the average user.  It is mainly used for medium to large corporations.

After researching all of these web page editors, I realized that the Homesite is the best way to go.  It offers way more than the FrontPage, and is much easier to use.  Plus I have used previous versions of Homesite, and never had a problem with it.  The price cannot be beaten either.
